Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent measuring tape with a lighting device in safety and economics with the almost same outline dimension and dead weight as the existing measuring tape. SOLUTION: A measuring tape 1 comprises a lighting device 2 near to an entrance and exit 12 of a tape 3 of a case 11 for the measuring tape 1. A light direction irradiated from the lighting device 2 is nearly sided with the tape 3 and herewith a light emitting diode(LED) 23 is used for a light source of the lighting device 2. A scale 32 and figures 33 on the tape 3 are printed with paint including light-accumulative material and fluorescent material. Then, an unnecessary lighting-up is prevented by judging the light and darkness condition of circumstance and the drawing-out condition of the tape 3 with an optical sensor 24 and a photo-sensor 25 provided.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a number of tape measures provided with a lighting device have been proposed, which use a miniature bulb commonly used as a light source and use a small dry cell as a power source. Lights the tape that was pulled out. The lighting device is installed at the front wall of the case in many cases, and a lighting device having a power supply unit is installed on the front wall in a retrofit state, or a lighting device with a power supply unit is installed inside the front wall. There are many things. Then, the lighting device is activated according to the surrounding light and dark conditions, and the drawn tape is illuminated to perform the measurement work.

[0003] However, since the above-mentioned lighting device uses a general miniature bulb as a light source, it is extremely susceptible to vibration and shock when handling the tape measure, so that the tape measure can be moved in a tool box or the like or moved during use. The bulb may be cut by vibration or shock caused by contact with other objects, and there is a risk of injury due to the crack of the bulb. In addition, small dry batteries are used for the power supply, and although small, when compared to the size of a tape measure, storing it in a case requires a considerable amount of space, resulting in an increase in the size and weight of the tape measure. In spite of the merit that it can be used in dark places, the tape measure has become extremely difficult to use.

Further, if the battery is continuously used in a dark place, the battery is greatly consumed, and the battery must be replaced frequently, which is economically disadvantageous. Also, it is also necessary to prepare a spare battery. It was troublesome. The area where the tape can be illuminated can only be illuminated in a range close to the case by using a miniature bulb, and the irradiation light illuminates the tape surface at a certain angle, so depending on the position where the tape is viewed, Irradiation light was reflected on the tape surface and was difficult to see. From the above, the tape measure provided with the lighting device is not suitable for the working environment and requires much improvement.

The tape for measurement used in the tape measure may be printed with a usual paint or paint color, but is preferably printed with a paint containing a luminous agent or a paint containing a fluorescent agent. Also, the part to be printed with the above-mentioned paint may be all parts of the tape surface, the scale, and the numerals or a part thereof, for example, only the tape surface. A suitable phosphorescent agent or fluorescent agent may be appropriately selected and used.

Since the tape measure with the lighting device of the present invention has the above-described structure, the switch for starting the lighting device is turned on when the scale of the tape becomes difficult to see. As a result, light is emitted from the lighting device, and the tape is illuminated, and the printed surface of the tape appears to be lifted by the light.

At this time, the light emitted from the illuminating device travels almost in parallel with the tape, and the tape surface is illuminated with ambient light that is out of the united light. Thus, the irradiation light is not reflected on the tape surface, and the portion printed by the phosphorescent agent or the fluorescent agent shines slightly.

The tape measure has almost the same external dimensions as a tape measure without an illumination device, and its own weight hardly changes.
In addition, the use of the light emitting diode is excellent in impact resistance during normal use, and the power consumption during illumination is small. Further, since the surrounding light / dark state and the tape withdrawal state are detected by the sensor, unnecessary lighting can be prevented. For this reason, it can be handled in the same manner as a general tape measure, and is excellent in safety and economy. Also, when used by elderly people, the scales and figures can be easily read.
