Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate mutual engagement by forming projections engaged into the recessed sections of the corresponding channel members of adjacent panels in one edge faces of panels and edge faces on the reverse sides and forming the edge faces in a shape coinciding with the contour of a reinforcing member. SOLUTION: A reinforcing member 12 consisting of a sigma-shaped steel is fixed at one end of a wall panel 10 composed of a core 11 such as polystyrene foam, and a lip piece buried into the core 11 is formed at the terminal edge section of the reinforcing member 12. A tongue piece 13 elongated extending over the overall length of the edge section of the panel 10 is formed, and abutting sections 14 are formed among the tongue piece 13 and the opposed surfaces of the core 11. When the adjacent panels 10 are joined mutually, the tongue piece 13 of one panel 10 is inserted and engaged into the groove 25 of the reinforcing member 12 of the adjacent panel 10. Accordingly, the reinforcing member not only can reinforce the panels but also can simplify the mutual engagement of the adjacent panels.

As noted above, the present invention provides two substantially parallel and coextensive major surfaces separated by a core thickness, and four edge surfaces joining the coextensive surfaces. A building panel comprising a core of substantially linear foamed plastic material and a reinforcing channel member having a recess and arranged to extend along one of said edges. An edge surface opposite to the edge surface is formed of a protrusion that can be engaged in a recess of a corresponding channel member of an adjacent panel, and the edge surface has a shape matching the contour of the reinforcing member. Thus, it is possible to provide a building panel having a reinforcing channel member on at least one edge thereof, which channel not only reinforces the panel but also provides a means by which adjacent panels can be engaged with each other.
