Background of the Invention
Communication systems that use simulcast transmission are well known. Typical example
Is a wireless paging system. A single information signal can be geographically dispersed simultaneously
From a remote transmitter to provide wireless coverage over a large geographic area
, Simulcast transmission is used in most wide-area wireless paging systems.
Have been.
The geographic coverage area and thus the simulcast wireless communication system
If the number of users grows, Communication traffic reaches system capacity
May be And before additional areas and users can be accommodated
Steps must be taken to increase system traffic capacity
. One step often taken is to add another radio channel to the system.
And in
is there. This step is relatively expensive at best, And all available
It may not be possible in some locations where available channels are occupied.
Therefore, Simulcast radio in a way that does not require an additional radio channel
There is a need for a method and apparatus for increasing the capacity limit of a communication system.

I do. further, The device comprises an identification bit pattern.
A central controller coupled to the plurality of communication cells for assigning a service to the plurality of communication cells.
Include an assignment element in the Troller
. The identification bit pattern is a duplicate of the transmission of the identification bit pattern adjacent to each other.
Simultaneous reception from one of several communication cells
And The received interference bit pattern (interference)
bit pattern), The received plurality of communication cells
Are identified by the portable communication unit
By analyzing the received jamming bit pattern, a subset of the plurality of message cells is obtained.
Or a subset. The subset is

An identification element is provided for identifying a subset of the communication cells. The subset is
Includes more than the one of the plurality of received communication cells. Said portable
A communication unit is further coupled to the receiver element and a portable unit is assigned
A plurality of said plurality of reception interference bit patterns expected in the service area.
Received from at least one of the communication cells
Storage element for storing the processor information. The service area
Consists of selected portions of the coverage area. further, The portable communication
The unit is The service area from the program information coupled to the memory element;
Received a disturbing bit pattern specified as expected in the region
It is determined that the portable communication unit is in the service area according to,
And furthermore, interference bits not specified as expected in the service area.
