In particular, the present invention is applicable to inspection of a separated test object (inspection part), particularly inspection of an inspection part having a specific region of interest. The application will be described with reference to a specific case, but the present invention can be widely applied to an image inspection environment where a detailed image is required to be taken. High-speed automatic inspection of mass-produced products is rapidly becoming an essential part of industrial production. As the reliance on automated video inspection increases, so does the need for higher capabilities and resolutions. The first phase of improvement in video inspection was with respect to basic inspection algorithms. The second phase of the subsequent improvement was aimed at improving the actual images captured. Such systems employed components such as solid state (LED) arrays, and optionally a diffuser, to obtain more uniform illumination. Of course, the more uniform the illumination field, the more accurate the resulting captured image. Further improved testing has resulted from the recognition of the underlying problem. That is, in most cases, the light source must typically be located on the same axis as the camera lens. As a result, if the whole or part of the obtained image is due to reflection, the structure of the camera lens itself appears on the obtained image. This problem can be addressed by using very small lens cameras, such as pinhole cameras. Although this is an improvement, the lens itself, which is an artifact, cannot be completely excluded from the image. Another problem with video inspection systems is that the objectives of the analysis conflict. Specifically, it is often desirable to analyze the entire video, but it may be desirable to analyze a part of the inspection product in detail. This latter advantage is particularly needed in the case of test articles having high stress areas and the like. If there are such competing goals, multiple inspection stations are often required. The first station captures and analyzes the entire image of the inspection product. At the subsequent second station, attention is focused on a specially defined part. Such a system requires two sets of illumination and imaging systems. Also, such systems require more space on the production line to accommodate multiple inspection stations. And finally, the analysis results of the two stations must be harmonized and synchronized. The system of the present invention addresses the above and other problems, minimizes the image of the man-made structure on the image, allows for complete detailed image inspection, and uses a single station to provide a single inspection item. The present invention provides an efficient mechanism capable of simultaneously performing an overall inspection and a detailed inspection of the above. According to the present invention, there is provided an image inspection illumination system employing a beam splitter. Light from a light source is directed to the beam splitter. A portion of the light from the light source is then directed to a separate component in the field of view, the test item. In order to make the light obtained more homogeneous, it is advantageous to provide the light source with a diffuser. Light reflected from the inspection product is sent to a camera device for imaging through a beam splitter. According to a more limited aspect of the invention, a second beam splitter is provided for capturing light that has passed through the first beam splitter and reflected by the test article. The beam splitter sequentially sends a first portion of light to a first camera and a second portion of light to a second camera. One of these cameras provides sufficient magnification to provide a detailed analysis of a selected portion of the entire specimen. In accordance with a more limited aspect of the present invention, the captured images are compared to selectively exclude inspection items that do not meet a predetermined criteria. One of the advantages of the present invention is to provide an inspection system that can capture and analyze very detailed images. Still another advantage of the present invention is that a single work station can provide an inspection system that can capture and analyze a plurality of images of a single inspection product. Still another advantage of the present invention is to provide a precise inspection system that can reduce the number of parts and increase the number of inspections processed within a certain period. Further advantages will be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art upon reading and understanding the detailed description of the invention. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The invention may take the form of several parts and combinations of parts, as set forth in the specification and the drawings forming part of the specification, FIG. 1 shows the entire inspection illumination and imaging system according to the invention, FIG. 2 shows in detail a part of the illumination of the system of FIG. 1 and its ray diagram, FIG. 3 shows the system of FIGS. 2 shows a programmable light source that can be advantageously implemented. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Reference will now be made to the drawings, which are intended to illustrate preferred embodiments and do not limit the invention. FIG. 1 shows an automated image inspection system A including an illumination subsystem B and an imaging subsystem C. The disclosed system facilitates enhanced defect detection and optical inspection that is particularly suited for separation components such as those used in the container industry. As will be seen, the system provides convergent illumination from a programmable or non-programmable light source. The system also provides divergent illumination from any of these light sources. A preferred light source comprises a solid state illumination source, such as a pulsed light emitting diode array. However, any light source having a sufficient illumination level can be used. Strobes such as the aforementioned LED arrays and inert gas strobes have the advantage that they can "fix" the moving test article and thereby obtain an image. In the case of a continuous light source, it is necessary to add a commonly used electronic shutter mechanism to "fix" the captured image. For certain reasons, multispectral light sources may also be advantageously used in certain applications. In this system, a separated image can be obtained by optically enlarging a part of the image using optics of an ordinary camera. This makes the obtained information about the defect available for subsequent analysis and comparison. In the structure of FIG. 1, the light source 10 is used to generate the light toward the substantially d 1 direction. In a preferred embodiment, the light source 10 is advantageously programmable to generate selective light, as described in detail below. Light from light source 10 is passed through diffuser 12 to enhance homogeneity. This diffuser 12 is advantageously constructed of a translucent or transparent material such as glass or plastic. The surface is optically "roughened" and is modified so that, as the incident light passes through the medium, it is evenly distributed over a region as diffused transmitted scattered light. The detailed dispersion properties are highly dependent on the particular application. This selection is made by selecting translucence, transparency, and surface roughness. Light from the light source 10 which has passed through the diffuser 12, the flow advances to the beam splitter 16 along the d 1 direction. Beam splitter 16 has a function of an optical splitter, a portion of the light passes through while maintaining a substantially d 1 direction. The rest of the light is reflected at a reflection angle φ 2 , which is approximately equal to the angle of incidence φ 1 between the direction d 1 of the incident light and the substantially planar beam splitter 16. Part of the incident light reflected by the beam splitter 16 travels substantially along the d 2 direction. The beam splitter 16 is preferably made of a flat glass plate with an optical surface treatment, preferably with a metal coating. Such beam splitters are commercially available. The characteristics of the beam splitter 16 are generally such that the incident light is transmitted and reflected with equal intensity. However, it is preferable to use, for example, 60% / 40% division instead of equal division. Such a splitter is found in Edmund Scientific, Burlington, NJ, product number G72.502. As with the diffuser, it should be understood that the details of the particular light splitter will vary widely from application to application. Light reflected from the beam splitter 16 and proceeds in the direction of d 2 as described above. This light then enters the field lens 20. In the preferred embodiment, the field lens is a plano-convex singlet lens. With this configuration, the light incident on the field lens 20 advances to the illumination field, that is, the field 22 in a converged form. In this manner, convergent illumination is provided to the object to be imaged, shown as inspection item 24. In the preferred embodiment, it will be seen that a series of similar specimens as indicated at 24 are conveyed to the field of view 22 by conveyor means 26 such as a moving belt. Convergent illumination is used on the inspected product being imaged as described above. When using this illumination, the target or inspection product is placed in space such that it is separated from the vertex or plane of the field lens 20 by a distance less than the main focal length. In this way, the illumination is projected as a dispersed and formed convergent light source. If a diffuse array illumination source is employed, the illumination will be like a continuum at infinity. In this case, as a result of the uniform illumination field, the homogeneity of the distributed light source is also maintained in the illumination of the inspection product. In the above configuration, it must be understood that the inspection product to be imaged is located within the main focal length of the field lens 20. This results in the desired shape of the specimen illumination. The illumination of the test article can also be illuminated through other optical correction elements. Suitable such optical correction elements are beam splitters, mirrors, lenses and the like. Such an optical element can be located in front of or behind the field lens from the light source 10 towards the test article 24. In another embodiment, the test article may be located outside the primary focal length. In this case, a continuous dispersive illumination field having the same characteristics as the aforementioned continuous convergent illumination field is obtained. The purpose of any inspection system is to create and capture an image of the inspection item for analysis. This object is achieved by arranging the components of the system such that the imaging device, i.e. the camera and the optics, essentially observes the specimen through the field lens. Returning to FIG. 1 again, the light that has passed through the field lens 20 and has entered the inspection object 24 is reflected from the light in a substantially d 3 direction as shown in the figure. This light passes through the field lens 20 again. When light traveling in the d 3 direction passes through the field lens 20 again, the light begins to converge. The relative position of the test article and the imaging device with respect to the field lens is a controllable factor. The correlation with the field lens defines the image magnification factor, which directly depends on the distance between the imaging device and the test article from the field lens. In the case of a single lens type field lens, there is a certain inherent imaging limit. These lead to a decrease in image quality. The system of the present invention addresses these problems by ensuring that all images passing through the field lens 20 are paraxial. Thus, the inspection product area to be imaged is relatively close to the optical axis O of the field lens 20. As a result, an area to be imaged is placed at a position relatively close to the optical axis of the field lens 20 where aberration and distortion are minimized. With this relative arrangement, a high-quality image can be obtained through the single lens type field lens 20, and further, the adverse effects on the image due to the geometrical and chromatic aberrations inherent to the lens can be suppressed to a negligible level. . When the reflected light passes through the field lens 20, the light propagates to the beam splitter 16 again. Here, some light is reflected again according to the optical characteristics of the beam splitter 16 as described above, and some light passes through. Portion of the light passing through the flow proceeds along a substantially d 4 direction. In a preferred embodiment, the light traveling in the direction of approximately d 4, enters the second beam splitter 30 which functions as an image splitter. Some of the light is reflected in the direction of the d 5, some light continues to advance in the direction of the d 4. Again, the relative distribution of light is determined by choosing the characteristics of the image splitter 30. In addition to the above, a specific inspection product can be dealt with by employing a multispectral light source. See, for example, the application entitled "Image Inspection System Employing Multispectral LED Illumination" in U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 07 / 990,009. This is assigned to the same assignee as the present application, and its contents are incorporated herein by reference. In such an embodiment, the splitter 30 can be a color separator (color separator). The portion of light that has passed directly through the video splitter 30 is sent to the main video camera 34. In the preferred embodiment, the main video camera 34 functions to capture an image of the entire inspection product. Almost d reflected light portions proceeding 5 direction is sent to the second camera 36 that functions as an enlarged camera in the preferred embodiment. The magnifying camera 36 is used to closely inspect a part of interest (“AOI”: Area of Interest) of each inspection product. If the system is used to inspect parts such as riveted or tabbed can lids, this magnifying camera 36 is advantageously used as an augmentation of the main rivet image. With such an arrangement, the field lens pre-magnifies the image before using the integral camera optics located in the magnifying camera 36 to create a magnified image. In such an arrangement, spurious reflections on the lens surface are reduced, and the use of a special diffuser 12 as described above increases the light incident on that portion. As a result, by employing a broadband anti-reflection coating (46 on the plano-convex lens) for lenses 38 and 40 of cameras 34 and 36, respectively, the effect is obtained that these effects can be reduced to a negligible level. Preferably, each of the cameras 34 and 36 comprises a semiconductor-type charge-coupled device ("CCD"). The digitized video captured there is sent to any suitable image analyzer 42, which is commercially available and within the purview of those skilled in the art. In a preferred embodiment, the main video camera 34 has a field of view ("FOV"), typically in the range of 3 to 5 inches. Again, the field of view will vary greatly depending on the application, and this number is merely an example of the preferred embodiment. The magnifying camera 36 has a focus point on a particular area of the test article. In the preferred embodiment, the field of view is suitably 0.25 ". By analyzing the captured image, a rejection mechanism that does not meet predetermined criteria by a rejection mechanism, such as that shown as defective ejector 44. When the device is activated, a device such as 44 removes defective items from the conveyor means 26. Referring to Fig. 2, the illumination subsystem of Fig. 1 is facilitated. A ray trajectory diagram is shown for B. The numbers used in connection with claim 1 are also used directly in Figure 2. Further, the anti-reflective coating is applied as shown at 46. It will be appreciated that a light control device 48 is employed to achieve illumination control as described below, and referring now to Fig. 3, which is employed in the preferred embodiment. Light source 1 Disclosed is the function of a programmable light source for 0. As shown, the light source 10 is comprised of a programmable light source 50. The test article has a circular shape, as is the case in the container industry. Thus, a circular configuration is shown in the figures as light source 10. Preferred light sources in the preferred embodiment include a planar arrangement of solid state light devices such as light emitting diodes ("LEDs"). The planar light rays of such an LED are described in detail in the prior art and will not be repeated here.If the LEDs are arranged in a series of concentrically controllable areas, selective control of the illumination is possible. As can be seen in Fig. 3, the LEDs are arranged in separate controllable zones, namely zones 1 to 4. Each of these zones is selectively controllable. In this way, the light intensity, operation, or lighting time of the optical element in a specific zone is controlled, and this configuration enables selective control of the illumination of the inspection product, and the identification of the inspection target. In another embodiment, the programmable light source 10 may be constituted by an inert gas, that is, a strobe of xenon. These light sources can also be made programmable by employing a series of concentrically individually operable tube sections. The present invention has been described with reference to the preferred embodiments. Any modifications that fall within the equivalent range are included in the present invention.
