Aggregate manufacturing method
Background of the Invention
The present invention produces a feedstock agglomerate for a fluidized bed roaster or fluidized bed combustion furnace.
It is about the method.
A particular field of application of the present method of interest is the use of zinc sulfide concentrates in fluidized bed roasters.
The field of calcining such concentrates is not limited to this field.
It was believed in the prior art that the optimum performance of fluidized bed roasting
Does the concentrate as feed to the fluidized bed roaster have a favorable particle size distribution?
It depends on what you do.
In particular, what was believed in the prior art was
i. Concentrate feedstock particles smaller than the lower limit of the preferred particle size distribution may be
Tend to be entrained in the waste gas stream from
ii. Concentrate feedstock larger than the upper limit of the preferred particle size distribution tends to remain in the fluidized bed
May disrupt the fluidized state of the fluidized bed;
It is.
It was believed in the prior art that the preferred particle size distribution for fluidized bed roasters was
, Depending on the type of the fluidized bed roasting apparatus. For example, in a fluidized bed
Apparent gas velocity of 0.67 m / s at 975 ° C.
. A known type of lulugi type fluidized bed roaster operated at an apparent gas velocity of 4 m / s
Thus, the preferred particle size distribution is 0.1 to 2 mm.
The production of concentrate feedstock for roasting in a fluidized bed involves grinding ore containing minerals.
It is usually done by a flotation process.
Grinding releases the mineral particles and flotates the valuable mineral components of the ore from other components.
Necessary to be able to separate and produce concentrate.
However, pulverization may cause the particle size distribution to exceed the lower limit of the preferred particle size distribution for the fluidized bed roaster.
Fine particles with extremely small size are often formed in a large proportion.
Moreover, flotation always produces concentrate as a thriller.
In the form of transporting concentrate by ship and using conventional solid substance handling equipment
Cannot be handled or stored, and thus the concentrate produced is
Not a suitable feed for roasting equipment.
The result is always easy handling, transport and storage, and then
Produces a form of concentrate that can be calcined under optimal operating conditions for a fluidized bed roaster
To do so, it is necessary to dehydrate and concentrate the concentrate.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved concentrate for producing agglomerates of concentrate, especially finely divided concentrate.
It is to provide a method.
Summary of the Invention
The present invention is a method of producing an aggregate of a feed material,

It is preferable that an agglomerate is formed.
Here, “relatively dense” means that the aggregates are disintegrated to an unsatisfactory particle size range.
It means that it is in a dense state enough to withstand handling.
It is particularly preferred that the compacting step (b) produces relatively dense aggregates, and /

If the feedstock is a mineral concentrate, the feed to step (a) contains minerals
Ores are preferred.
In that case, the manufacturing process processes the crushed mineral-containing ore to convert the mineral to other ore.
It is preferable to further have a supplementary step of separating from the components to produce a slurry of the mineral.

And a calcining method for the mineral concentrate.
Preferred embodiments of the invention
Sulfurization from Century deposits in North Queensland, Australia
The invention will be further described by way of example of an experimental work performed on zinc concentrate.
The results of the experimental work are partially summarized in the accompanying drawings and partially summarized in the description below.
The accompanying drawings illustrate a range of zinc sulfide concentrates in a fluidized bed reactor summarized as follows:
Shows the particle size distribution of calcined products produced from aggregates produced by different densification processes

Sample b1: Aggregate with 12% moisture by high pressure filtration in a Denver tube press
And prepared to a particle size distribution of 9.5 to 16 mm.
Sample b2: Aggregate with 12% moisture by high pressure filtration in a Denver tube press
And dried to 1% moisture, re-wet to 12% moisture, 9.5-16 mm granules
Prepared to a degree distribution.
Sample c: filtered under low pressure, moisture content 11%, particle size distribution 2mm in Erich coagulator
What produced smaller aggregates.
Sample d: low-pressure filtration, followed by hot-air drying in a rotary drier, moisture content 11%, particle size
What produced the aggregate whose distribution is smaller than 10 mm.
Sample e: After the cake produced in the Denver tube press was sheared, it was sheared.
The cake thus obtained is coagulated in an Erich coagulator to obtain a moisture content of 11% and a particle size distribution of 0.1%.
What produced an aggregate of 1 to 1 mm.
The particle size distribution of the unagglomerated concentrate used in the production of the sample was as follows.
98% <20 μm
85% <10 μm
63% <5 μm
30% <2 μm
These samples were placed in a 300 mm diameter fluidized bed roaster at the pilot plant.
Or in an experimental scale fluidized bed roaster with a diameter of 70 mm.
The present inventors have argued that these fluidized bed roasters are commercially available lurugi type fluidized bed described above.
It has a fluidized state similar to a roaster, so the result of the experimental work is a lulugi type fluidized bed.
It was found to be an indicator of the results achieved with roasters.
In the attached drawings, the particle size distributions of samples b, c, d and, although slightly inferior, e
Of suitable particle size distribution for optimal operation of fluidized bed roasters in the range of 0.1 to 2 mm
It is.
This is remarkable and, in many respects, an unexpected result. The reason is
The sample forming feed is finely divided according to the prior art without adding a binder.
Containing aggregates formed from finely ground zinc sulfide concentrate;
Agglomerates, that is, aggregates formed from fine particles, rapidly turn into fine particles of less than 0.1 mm.
Because it is expected to break down in the fluidized bed roaster and blow from the fluidized bed.
is there.
The results for sample b are particularly pronounced and unexpected. The reason is that the aggregate
The particle size distribution of the feed is between 9.5 and 16 mm, which corresponds to a Lurgi type fluidized bed bed.
Significantly higher than the upper limit of the preferred conventional particle size distribution of
, Such large agglomerates are not fluidized, which makes the roaster inoperable
It is expected to be.
The unexpected result of sample b is believed to be due to relatively dense aggregates. specific
Although not wishing to be limited to the theory of, relatively dense agglomerates are formed in the fluidized bed roaster.
When placed under high temperature in
(1) The pressure in the pores of the aggregate suddenly rises due to the generation of steam,
(2) As a result of the relatively small pore size, the aggregates adapt to the elevated internal pressure
Can break down into smaller components
it is conceivable that.
In sample e, an aggregate of zinc sulfide concentrate was obtained from a commercial fluidized bed from an all source.
Prepared from the viewpoint that it can be broken down into fine particles when transferred to a roaster
. The results for sample e show that the re-agglomeration of the milled agglomerates has been calcined in a fluid bed roaster.
It shows that the particles had a sufficient particle size distribution.
The results for sample b ii show the effect of moisture on the aggregates. In particular,
Thus, sample b ii re-wet the dry agglomerates used to produce sample a,
Next, this aggregate was formed by reforming to 12% moisture. Sample b ii
Are the same as the results for sample bi, even if the aggregates are dried too much,
It shows that it can be rewet without losing its performance.
We have conducted experiments and found that the critical value was 4.5 mm (and up to 25 mm).
Now, a ramp of the agglomerates produced by the high pressure filtration described for sample bi above
The size did not significantly affect the particle size distribution of the baked product of the fluidized bed roaster.
Was shown. Therefore, the top size of the aggregate is not a significant factor. The reason
The agglomerates up to 25 mm are mainly treated in a fluidized bed roaster in the range of 0.1 to 2 mm.
This is because it does not decompose into small components having a particle size distribution in the box.
In essence, experiments have shown that handling, transport and storage in fluidized bed roasters
From raw zinc sulfide concentrate with “raw” strength
It became clear that an aggregate could be formed. So, for example,
In the release of impurities in oars, the subsequent firing of zinc sulfide concentrate
In producing zinc sulfide concentrate without adverse effects in
The advantage of oars with fine zinc can be obtained. Specific results from experiments
Has a relatively large particle size distribution, i.e., a relatively dense
Aggregates break down into relatively small agglomerates when exposed to elevated temperatures in a fluidized bed roaster
And relatively small agglomerates are preferred for optimal performance of large fluidized bed roasters
It is a particle size distribution.
The method of the present invention will be described with reference to experiments performed by the present inventors.
Various changes can be made without departing from the scope.
In particular, while experiments relate to zinc sulfide concentrates, the present invention
Without limitation, it can extend to any suitable substance, such as call washer slime.
It is easily understood.
