Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a heating efficiency while preventing a short-circuit by expanding a side wall of a case body in a downwardly slanted manner thus forming a downwardly slanted blow-off opening on its extension and providing a suction propeller fan at an inlet side of a suction opening of the case body. SOLUTION: A side wall 2a of a case body 2 is expanded in a downwardly slanted manner so as to form a downwardly slanted blow-off opening 4 on its extension. A suction propeller fan 20 is disposed at an inlet side of a suction opening 3 of the case body 2. A centrifugal fan 6 has a drive shaft 21 thereof extended downwardly and the suction propeller fan 20 is fixedly mounted on the lower end of the drive shaft 21. Due to such a construction, during a heating operation, upon controlling of a number of revolution of the centrifugal fan 6 and the suction propeller fan 20, hot air blown off from the blow-off opening 4 reaches a floor surface of a room 9. Furthermore, with this air flow, an optimum air conditioning zone can be formed in the room 9 and a short-circuit which leads the hot air blown off from the blow-off opening to the suction opening can be prevented.

During operation of the air conditioner, refrigerant from an outdoor unit (not shown) circulates through the heat exchanger 7, and the centrifugal fan 6 is driven by the motor 5. Then, the room air in the room 9 is guided from the suction port 3 through the suction grill 11 and the filter 13, guided by the bell mouth 12, sucked into the centrifugal fan 6, and urged. Then, it is cooled or heated in the process of flowing through the heat exchanger 7 to be conditioned air and blown out of the outlet 4 into the chamber 9.

During the heating operation of the conventional air conditioner, since the specific gravity of the warm air blown out from the outlet 4 is smaller than that of the room air, the warm air hardly reaches the floor of the room 9. There is a possibility that a so-called short circuit may be caused in which the hot air is short-circuited from the outlet 4 to the inlet 3 and is sucked.

According to the present invention, since the side wall of the case body is enlarged diagonally downward and the outlet is formed diagonally downward in the extension direction, the air flowing out of the heat exchanger is guided by the side wall of the case body. Accordingly, the pressure can be easily inclined downward without increasing the pressure loss, and a so-called short circuit in which the airflow blown out from the outlet is short-circuited to the inlet and sucked can be prevented.
