Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily judge the type and the inserting direction of inserted paper money in a discrimination machine. SOLUTION: In the device, paper money is inserted, the optical or magnetic pattern of paper money is read by an optical sensor or a magnetic sensor and it is compared with the standard pattern data of paper money, which is previously stored in a storage means 14, and the authenticity of paper money is judged. In such a case, the upper/lower limit values of the standard pattern in the whole directions and whole lengths of paper money, which can be discriminated, are stored in the storage means 14. The output signals of the pattern, which are detected by inserting paper money being an discrimination object, are successively compared with the upper/lower limit values of the respective standard patterns which are stored. The standard pattern which is not matched when a compared result that is not matched with the upper/lower limit values of the respective standard patterns is obtained is removed from comparison candidates. The type and the direction of paper money are judged before the reading of the pattern for the whole lengths in paper money terminates.

2. Description of the Related Art As shown in FIG. 1 (a side view showing the structure of a conventional paper money discriminating apparatus), a paper money or the like 1 is conveyed by a conveying means 2 such as a belt. Along with the reflection type sensor 3 provided at a predetermined position of the transporting means 2, data on a printing pattern of the banknote 1 is read and stored every time the banknote 1 moves by a predetermined transport length,
When the reading of the entire length of the bill 1 is completed, the type of the bill 1 is determined by comparing this with standard pattern data relating to the printing pattern of the bill 1 stored in the memory in advance. Was common. The idea of the determination is the same even when the print pattern of the magnetic ink is read by using the reflection sensor as the magnetic sensor, and therefore, the reflection sensor (optical sensor) will be described below.

In the memory, patterns are stored in advance for all types of bills and the like that can be identified, and the patterns are sequentially taken out and compared with the pattern data detected by the reflection type sensor. At this time, bills etc.
Because it can be transported in four different directions on the ground,
In general, four data are stored in a memory for each bill in consideration of the direction in which the bills are conveyed, and this device enables reception of three kinds of bills and the like. In some cases, every time one bill or the like is inserted, comparison must be performed 12 times after the end of pattern detection. If the number of sensors increases, the number of sensors becomes 12 times.

In the above method, a large number of comparisons are performed after the end of the pattern detection, so that the determination time becomes long. As a technique for solving this, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open
Japanese Patent No. 3142 discloses that a pattern of a bill or the like conveyed by a conveying unit is read by a pattern reading unit and compared with data on a pattern of a bill or the like to be identified which is stored in a storage unit in advance. An apparatus for identifying a type is disclosed. The identification device includes external dimension detecting means for detecting the external dimensions of the bills and the like to be conveyed, stores the data in the storage means after grouping the data in advance according to the external dimensions, and stores the data in the corresponding external dimension group. Only the belonging data is taken out from the storage means, and this is compared with the read data from the pattern reading means to determine the type of the bill or the like.

The read detection data storage section 14 reads detection data from the five sensors into the respective storage sections. Since the positions of the sensors are different, reading is performed at a predetermined timing from the time when each sensor starts detection. The read data is stored for each point. The detection data from the reflection type sensor 4 is sequentially stored from 1P to 10P, and the stored data is sequentially stored every time the data is stored. , At the lower limit. It is compared with 24 kinds of data of the type of banknote (I, II, III) × the four directions (A, B, C, D) which can be inserted × 1P upper limit value and lower limit value. The data is (IA-4-1)

In the description, 10 points are read in the longitudinal direction of the bill, but actually, comparison at more points is required. Also, it is read out how many points deviate from one candidate in one data group with respect to one sensor as a comparison candidate (NG) or how many points deviate from a data group corresponding to five sensors with NG. The determination may be made in consideration of the number of points, the reliability of the sensor, the reliability of the discriminator, and the like. 6 and 7 are diagrams for explaining the candidate storage unit and the determination result totaling unit in detail. FIG. 6 is a diagram for explaining that three types of denominations (types of banknotes) and four insertable directions are excluded from the candidates. The 1/0 flag is set, and 1 is first set as all candidates. When the data is excluded from the candidates as determined by the determination result totaling unit shown in FIG. 7, the data in the memory 12 is excluded from the comparison as 0. Whether the direction is excluded or the denomination is excluded depends on the determination result of the determination result totaling unit. The determination result totaling unit has a function of totalizing the number (NG number) outside the allowable range of the upper and lower limit values for each sensor with respect to the denomination and the insertion direction, and a function of calculating the NG number for each sensor for each denomination and the insertion direction. It has a function to total the total. The results from the comparison and determination means are sequentially tabulated, and when the number of NGs reaches a preset number, the determination result is sent to the candidate storage unit. The number of NGs set in advance is for each sensor,
It is possible to set the total number for each denomination and the denomination. For example, each sensor can be set to be within the allowable NG number (OK) for up to two NGs, and to be OK for up to five NGs by denomination.

According to the identification device of the present invention, when one third of the entire length of a bill or the like passes through the sensor unit, the type and the insertion direction of the bill are determined. Thereafter, the comparison with the corresponding data group is continued, and the determination of another item (for example, the outer dimension) is started.

According to the present invention, it is not necessary to compare all the data with the bill for identification, and the comparison of the data is started sequentially from the time the bill is carried in, and the number of comparison data is reduced each time. Immediately after reading of all data is completed, the authenticity of a bill or the like can be determined.

Since the possibility of determining the type of a bill or the like at the same time when the bill or the like has passed through the sensor is high,
Even when the inserted bill to be identified or the like is pulled out from the discharge side, there is a large possibility that the type of the bill or the like can be determined. This is effective when there is a stacker behind the discriminator and an accidental withdrawal by the stacker occurs before a transaction such as a bill is determined from the discharge side of the discriminator.
