Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a soln. for wearing or storing contact lenses which does not need a special apparatus nor a troublesome operation, can easily improve the water wettability of a contact lens, and enables filtration sterilization by using an aq. soln, contg. polyvinyl alcohol having specified degree of polymn. and degree of saponification in a specified concn. SOLUTION: This soln. is an aq. soln. contg. 0.1-3.0g/100mol polyvinyl alcohol having an average degree of polymn. lower than 1,000 and a degree of saponification of 85-95mol.%. Polyvinyl alcohol having an average degree of polymn. of 1,000 or higher sometimes gives an aq. soln. which exhibits an inferior water wettability and a high viscosity and does not enable filtration sterilization. A degree of saponification of polyvinyl alcohol lower than 85mol% gives a contact lens an insufficient water wettability, while that higher than 95mol% decreases the water wettability and degrades the solubility of the polyvinyl alcohol.

2. Description of the Related Art Contact lenses can be generally classified into hard contact lenses and soft contact lenses, and hard contact lenses are classified into polymethyl methacrylate type (oxygen impermeable type) and oxygen permeable type. On the other hand, soft contact lenses are classified into a hydrated type and a non-hydrated type. Such a contact lens exhibits its original function by covering the lens surface irrespective of whether the lens is hard or soft. If the tear surface does not cover the lens surface, undesired situations such as fogged vision and poor feeling of wearing are caused. Therefore, in order to form a stable tear film on the lens surface,
Until now, various methods for improving the water wettability of contact lenses have been studied.

As a method for improving the water wettability of a contact lens, for example, (1) a method of introducing a hydrophilic component into a lens material (Japanese Patent Publication Nos. 5-55850 and 6-27911), (2) a method of graft-polymerizing a hydrophilic monomer on the surface of the contact lens (JP-A-4-338713, JP-A-6-122779, etc.), and (3) attaching a highly viscous hydrophilic component to the contact lens surface. And the like. Among these methods, the above method (3) generally uses a contact-type thickener such as hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, methylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, or carboxymethylcellulose, depending on the viscosity of the thickener. This is a method of forming a hydrophilic film on the surface. A solution containing such a cellulosic thickener is commercially available as a contact lens mounting solution.

However, in the above method (1), the material is limited and it is difficult to cope with a wide range. In the method (2), a special device is required and the operation is complicated. Furthermore, the method (3) can improve water wettability by a simple operation, but has a high viscosity,
There is a problem that it is difficult to use the liquid to be filled when shipping the hard contact lens. This is for the following reasons. That is, the hard contact lens cannot be post-sterilized by heating because the lens has an influence on the lens. Therefore, the filling liquid for shipment of hard contact lenses is usually sterilized by filtration. However, it is because filtration sterilization cannot be performed with a highly viscous liquid in some cases, which causes a problem in sterility required for medical instruments.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION The solution for wearing or storing a contact lens according to the present invention is an aqueous solution containing polyvinyl alcohol, which is produced by saponifying a polymer of vinyl esters according to a conventional method. can do. The vinyl ester is not particularly limited as long as it is capable of undergoing radical polymerization and its polymer can be saponified.
Examples thereof include vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl butyrate, and vinyl pivalate. Of these, vinyl acetate, which is industrially produced and economically advantageous, is preferred.
At present, this polyvinyl alcohol is industrially produced by saponifying polyvinyl acetate, and is widely used as a raw material for fibers, adhesives, films and the like. The properties of polyvinyl alcohol largely depend on the degree of polymerization and the degree of saponification, and the higher the degree of polymerization, the higher the viscosity at the same concentration. Generally, the average degree of polymerization is 1500 or more, high degree of polymerization, 1000 or more and less than 1500
Less than is called low polymerization degree. On the other hand, the degree of saponification indicates the ratio of vinyl alcohol units to the whole, and 98% by mole or more is called completely saponified, and less than 98% by mole is called partially saponified (including quasi-completely saponified).

In the present invention, the polyvinyl alcohol has an average degree of polymerization of less than 1000 and a degree of saponification of 85 to 95.
Mole% is used. If the average degree of polymerization is 1000 or more, while poor water wettability, the viscosity of the aqueous solution is too high, it may be impossible to sterilize by filtration,
The object of the present invention cannot be achieved. If the degree of saponification is less than 85 mol%, the water wettability is insufficient, and if it exceeds 95 mol%, the water wettability is reduced, the solubility is deteriorated, and the simplicity in production is impaired. In the present invention,
The concentration of polyvinyl alcohol in the aqueous solution is 0.1 to 3.0 g
/ 100 ml. If the concentration of the polyvinyl alcohol is out of this range, the water wettability is reduced, and the object of the present invention cannot be achieved. From the viewpoint of water wettability,
The preferred concentration of polyvinyl alcohol is 0.5 to 2.0 g /
In the range of 100 milliliters.

The viscosity of the aqueous solution varies depending on various conditions and cannot be unambiguously determined.
In the range of 4.0 cps or less. As described above, since the aqueous solution containing polyvinyl alcohol of the present invention does not have a very high viscosity, filtration sterilization can be sufficiently performed. The polyvinyl alcohol-containing aqueous solution of the present invention has a range in which the object of the present invention is not impaired, that is, has sufficient water wettability, and can be subjected to filtration sterilization treatment. Known additives used may be contained.

Here, examples of the preservative include quaternary ammonium salts such as benzalkonium chloride, chlorhexidine gluconate (hibiten), chlorobutanol, benzyl alcohol, phenethyl alcohol, and sorbic acid. Examples of the pH adjusting agent and the buffering agent include acids or bases and buffering agents that are commonly used in ophthalmic solutions.
H is usually maintained in the range of 5.0 to 8.0. Examples of the inorganic salts include sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, and various nitrates. Examples of the sequestering agent include di-, tri-, or tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate.

do it. The polyvinyl alcohol-containing aqueous solution of the present invention does not substantially contain a thickener and has a relatively low viscosity as described above, so that filtration sterilization treatment is possible, and particularly, filling of a hard contact lens at the time of shipment. It is suitable as a liquid or the like. There is no particular limitation on the type of contact lens to which the contact lens mounting or storage solution of the present invention can be applied, and it can be applied to both hard contact lenses and soft contact lenses, but it is particularly preferable to apply to hard contact lenses. .

<Method of Measuring Contact Angle> The contact angle was measured by a droplet method using a contact angle meter “CA-DT-A” manufactured by Kyowa Interface Science Co., Ltd. Since the measurement sample was spherical, the value obtained by subtracting the angle of the spherical surface from the contact angle of the water droplet was defined as the contact angle.

The contact lens mounting or storage solution of the present invention can easily improve the water wettability of the contact lens without adversely affecting the contact lens, and can improve the feeling of wearing the contact lens. In addition, since the solubility of polyvinyl alcohol as the material in water is good, it is easy to produce a solution. Furthermore, since the solution of the present invention has a relatively low viscosity and can be sterilized by filtration, it is particularly suitable as a filling liquid for transporting (shipping) hard contact lenses.
