溝を等径に円筒度良く仕上げることができる。上記ねじ
溝研削時支持装置において、前記ワークレストが、ワー
クのねじ溝曲面に接触するボール状部材と、このボール
状部材をワークの軸方向に所定範囲で移動自在に支持す
るボール支持部材とを備えたものとした場合は、ワーク
によってねじ溝のリードに差異が有る場合でも、調整不
良の問題を生じることなく、常にねじ溝曲面の適正位置
に接触するようにボール状部材が自動調心され、精度良
くねじ溝研削が行われる。また、長尺ワークの外径面の
2点を下側から支える下面支持部材を設けた場合は、段
取り替え時等に長尺ワークをワークレストの近傍で載せ
て支持することができるため、ボール状部材の進出位置
調整等を容易に行うことができる。この発明の長尺ワー
クのねじ溝研削時支持方法は、研削開始時における長尺
ワークの剛性の高い端部の数周分は両端だけで長尺ワー
クを支持して研削加工し、この後、研削済みのねじ溝曲
面部分を砥石と対向するワークレストで支持しながら研
削を続けるため、長尺ワークの全長にわたり、ワークの
外径の形状や寸法精度に影響されない高精度の溝研削が
行える。また、ワークの軸方向に移動自在に支持したボ
ール状部材でねじ溝曲面を支持しながら研削するように
した場合は、種々異なるリードの溝研削を行う場合も、
調整不良の問題を生じることなく、精度の良い研削が可
能となる。これらのねじ溝研削時支持方法において、前
記ねじ溝曲面の残り部分の研削の後、ワークレストでね
じ溝曲面を支持しながら長尺ワークの外径面をねじ溝と
同心に研削しても良い。これにより、長尺ワークの外径
面とねじ溝曲面とを精度良く同心に仕上げることができ
る。
