The push button switch device incorporates a light emitter on or near the push button to determine the state of the switch (eg, whether the switch is in the "off" or "on" position) (off or on). It is well known to indicate). The inventor has further appreciated from this that the push-button switch arrangement can be adapted in a new way to serve to monitor and / or control the electrical and / or electronic system associated with the switch arrangement. In one broad sense, a movable button member and a variable or programmable electronic display element adapted to visually display some plural characters (for example, numbers and / or characters) at a display position, We propose a push-button switch device in which the display element is visible through or on the button member of the device. In a more specific aspect, a switch body or a front edge for tightening to a board, a push button member reciprocally mounted on or in the main body or the front edge, and operated by movement of the push button member. Proposal of a push-button switch device comprising a possible electric switch and an electronically controllable variable display element which is adapted to display some plural characters and which is visible at or through the actuation part of the push-button member . The switch body is preferably a housing having a back wall facing a front opening occupied by the push button member, the push button member defining a front wall spaced from the back wall. The electronic display element may be visible through a watermark or window in the front wall of the push button member. It is movable with the button and is more preferably fixed to the switch body, for example to the back wall mentioned above. The electrical switch is also conveniently fixed to or on the body, for example to the back wall mentioned above. This simple and practical proposal can improve the quality compared to the conventional button light emitter. Traditional light emitters have only shown the status of the switch, eg "on" or "off". The electronic display device according to this proposal is capable of displaying letters, in particular letters and / or numbers, and offers a new order of flexibility, and therefore not only in the situation of the switch, or of the relevant system resulting from the situation of the switch, It can be connected to also indicate a more comprehensive state of related systems. It is valuable to indicate such a state with a push button, because the use of the push button can probably affect that state. Accordingly, a further aspect is a machine having an electrical / electronic system and at least one push-button device of the type described, connected by its electrical switch to affect the operation of the system. The electronic display element of the push button device is connected to the system status signal source to indicate the status of the system, and depending on which one or more letters are indicated by the push button. A particular embodiment of the invention is a game console or entertainment machine. In these, push button switches are widely used for player interaction. For example, a "fruit machine" (a gaming machine with a display of relatively movable reels each bearing a series of symbols) typically (a) after inserting or earning game credits. To start playing, (b) a button to "temporarily stop" each reel of the display device, and (c) to "promote" (ie, advance one by one) the reels. With any or all of the buttons. Here, in a general aspect, the machine referred to in the previous aspect is a gaming machine, and the pushbutton switch is used to initiate and control a game routine, such as that provided by the electrical / electronic system of the machine, and Any or all of the interactions between are for use by a player operating a machine. The machine status signal source indicates the status of the machine and / or game routine continuously or occasionally. For example, if the switch is a game start button to initiate play, the display element may display the number of available game credits. Others are used, for example, as "stop" or "promote" buttons for reel games, where "stop" or some other feature is available on a given button, or available "promote" This element can display the number of This button is also used as a bet adjustment button for a gambling game where the current bet value is shown on the display. Where a single button has multiple functions such as stop and propulsion, it may be represented by a button that is currently controlled by a push button to indicate the function provided there. The status signal source includes means for extracting the necessary signal information indicating the status from the system and outputting it to the display element. With the appropriate logic connections, the same display element may receive signals indicative of more than one state parameter at different times. The modifiable element is preferably an LED display or LCD display. The letters shown can be selected from numbers, letters, or other suitable, meaningful symbols. A multi-segment display or a dot matrix display may be suitable depending on the information to be shown. The 7-segment alphanumeric format associated with binary coded decimal logic is suitable. The display element is preferably visible through a push button watermark such as a transparent cover cap to protect the cover cap. In one preferred example, a printed circuit board is included on the back wall of the device housing. The display element, like an electrical switch (typically a microswitch), is mounted on a printed circuit board and can be connected by this board. A light emitter may be provided to illuminate the button member from behind. Such characteristics are known in game machines and the like. The front of the button member may incorporate illustrations and / or coloring, which may be provided as a backlit watermark. It is particularly preferred to provide one or more partitions, for example by inserting buttons, so that the space illuminated by the backlight, such as a conventional incandescent light bulb, is separated from the space containing the display element. A backlight, or a plurality of backlights that can operate independently of each other, such as those that indicate system status or illuminate an explanatory phrase adjacent to a display element, may be mounted on a printed circuit board as described above. It would be convenient. A printed circuit board, such as that described above, incorporated into a push button switch arrangement may include logic circuitry for converting status signals from the system into display signals adapted to the display elements. Embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. FIG. 1 shows a first embodiment of a push button switch assembly in an exploded perspective view. FIG. 2 shows a game machine. FIG. 3 is a plan view of a second embodiment of a push button switch assembly. FIG. 4 is an enlarged top perspective view of the internal cavity of the second embodiment with the push button member removed. FIG. 5 is a perspective view from below showing the switch body of the second embodiment. FIG. 6 is a developed top perspective view showing a portion of the push button member of the second embodiment. FIG. 7 is a bottom perspective view showing the assembled push button member of the second embodiment. Referring to FIG. 1, a push button switch suitable for a gaming machine essentially comprises a fixed front edge 1 and a movable push button 2 which can be mounted on it and reciprocates. The button 2 has a flat rectangular shape and fits substantially within the rectangular cavity 11 of the front edge 1. It consists essentially of a capsule formed by a transparent or translucent top cap or lens cap 21 that fits into a plunger base 22 fixed to a conventional microswitch component 23, the bulb of a conventional switchable backlight 3. It has a central circular hole 24 for receiving 31. Accommodated in a rectangular cavity formed by the cap 21 and the base 22 is a printed wiring board 25, a pair of 7-segment numeric LED display devices 26 for connecting to the terminals of the wiring board 25, and a central portion. And a flat plastic "symbol plate" 27, which is a semi-transparent plastic with a rectangular window 28. In the assembled button 2, a plastic watermark, on which information and / or a colored design is printed, is generally locked in a conventional manner between the symbol plate 27 and the flat upper window of the cap 21. It The LED display device 26 connected to the wiring board 25 projects to the adjacent cap 21 through the central window 28 of the symbol plate 27. The wiring from the plate 25 exits the button 2 through the wiring hole 29 'of the plunger base 22 and is used to assemble the front edge 1 with the substrate (not shown) and the cutout 41 and front edge of the screw body 4. 1 to the lower side of the substrate through the corresponding cutout 12 of itself. FIG. 1 shows the wiring leading to the PCB 5 which has a signal terminal 30 for controlling the LED display device 26. It will be appreciated that not only numeric / alphanumeric display devices are possible, but alternative display elements can provide graphic effects. FIG. 2 shows a “slot machine” type entertainment machine with a cabinet 6 having a movable reel display 7, a credit insertion means 8, an activation button 9 and a stop / promo button 10. The activation button 9 is constructed according to FIG. The other components mentioned may be conventional and their construction need not be described herein. The LED of the activation button 9 is hard-wired to the PCB of the main machine processor, which processor in particular stores the number of credits available to the player. This information is output and displayed numerically through the transparent top of the push button as shown. The processor of the machine has an error mode. Should the machine fail, the processor will self-diagnose the nature of the problem as much as possible and send an appropriate error code such as "E5" as displayed on button 9. This is useful for those who maintain or repair the machine. It is understood that other information may be displayed (eg, again via this single push button) when the machine is switched to another mode of non-playable operation, such as by an administrator. In other embodiments, pushbuttons 10 for controlling the reels may also have corresponding displays to indicate the number of "propulsions" available, etc. 3 to 7 show a second embodiment. As before, the generally rectangular push button member 102 is mounted in the corresponding rectangular front opening of the front edge 101. The bezel 101 rests on the front of a machine console (not shown) and the rectangular housing 105 attached to the bezel 101 is stowed into the console. The button member 102 is mounted by an integral rear lug 85 and front lug 86 (see FIGS. 6 and 7), which engages a corresponding rear notch 109 in the rear wall 107 of the housing 105 to provide a front lug. 86 engages a vertically extending front slot 110 in the front wall 108 of the housing. The narrow rear slot 109 supports the rear of the button member 102 and acts as a pivot, and the front lug 86 can move up and down in the front slot 110 to reciprocate the button. The housing 105 forms a rectangular cavity of plastic material. Formed integrally with the underfloor 106 is a conventional threaded tube 113 for securing the device to the machine housing by conventional means (not shown) and a multi-pin electrical connection socket 114. Socket boss to be installed (see Fig. 5). A printed circuit board (PCB) 104 is inserted into the cavity (FIG. 4), locked underneath the rear wall lug 112 at the rear end and fastened to the underfloor 106 by screws 116 at the front. The LED display chip 140 is connected to and fixed to the PCB 104. Here, the chip 140 is a standard 7-segment LED for indicating alphanumeric characters and is substantially centrally located on the PCB. The electronic micro switch 142 is fixed to the PCB on one side of the LED chip 140 and is connected by wiring. The movable armature 143 of the microswitch projects upward and is biased upward by a screw (not shown) inside the microswitch. Standard lighting bulbs 131 and 132 are positioned above and below the LED chip 140. In this embodiment, they are affixed to the PCB by adhesive pads and these terminals electrically connect to the PCB. 6 and 7 show the structure of the push button member. A rectangular cover cap 121, which may be tinted (transparent), is sized to fit snugly into the front opening of the front edge 101. This front plate 129 is continuous. A flexible polymer sheet (“symbol plate”) 127 fits into the cover cap behind the front. In this embodiment, the symbol plate 127 is a sheet of colored plastic, with an unaltered semi-transparent central window 128, an opaque side region 125, and varying color descriptive phrases (here "propulsion" and "promotion"). Banks)) and top and bottom regions 123 to define. The partition insert 122 snaps into the cover cap 121 to hold the symbol plate 127 in place. The insert 122 has a side member 122 that engages the side wall of the cover cap and a lateral divider wall 82 that aligns at the boundary between the color-changed translucent areas 123, 124 of the symbol plate 122. The switch presser boss 83 having a rubber cushion disk 84 (see FIG. 7) attached to the lower side is integrally formed as an inward projection from one of the side members 81. The relationship of these parts in the assembled push button 102 can be seen in FIG. When the button is assembled into the housing, the lugs 85, 86 engage as described above, the symbol plate window 128 is positioned over the LED chip 140, and the color-changed translucent areas 123, 124 are illuminated. Overlaid on each one of the bulbs 131, 132, the partition wall 82 of the button insert separates the inner housing space so that the illumination of the bulbs 131, 132 does not interfere with the LED display. The presser boss 83 engages the armature 143 of the microswitch 142 so that pressing the button member 102 causes the microswitch to operate and the spring inside the microswitch keeps the button member 102 up, i.e., the lug. Keep 86 at the top of slot 110. The rear surface of PCB 104 supports conventional logic circuitry to provide binary coded decimal input to display element 140. This differs from the first embodiment in which all logic circuitry is provided as part of the machine processor and remote from the pushbutton device. The multi-pin logic socket 114 cooperates with the corresponding multi-plug from the machine processor to provide the microswitch 142, the logic circuitry for the display element 140, and a separate electrical connection for each light bulb 131, 132.
