Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve ink absorbability and color developability by taking a means composing the coating layer arranged on a support by adding inorg. pigment particles specified in particle size and a bind based on a water-soluble high polymer in a specific mixing ratio. CONSTITUTION:A material to be recorded for ink jet recording is constituted by arranging a coating layer on a support. In this case, the coating layer is composed of a compsn. prepared by mixing inorg. pigment particles with a particle size of 3-20mum and a binder based on a water-soluble high polymer so that the mixing ratio of the inorg. pigment particles and the binder is 100/20-100/10 on a wt. basis and the dry coating amt. thereof is specified to 15g/m<2> or more. Further, a structure wherein the amorphous particulate shape of inorg. pigment particles is developed on the surface of the coating layer. At this time, the inorg. pigment particles are white inorg. pigment particles composed of silica, clay or talc. The water-soluble high polymer is selected from starch, gelation, casein and the like.

The ink jet recording method generates droplets of a recording liquid according to various operating principles and causes the droplets to fly and adhere to a recording material such as paper for recording. However, noise is less generated. , Has attracted attention as a recording method capable of high-speed printing and multicolor printing. As a recording liquid for inkjet recording, an aqueous liquid is mainly used from the viewpoint of safety and printability.

As a recording material used in this ink jet recording method, conventional ordinary paper has been generally used. However, with the improvement of the performance of the inkjet recording device such as high-speed recording or multi-color recording, more advanced characteristics are required for the recording material for inkjet recording. That is, as a recording material for ink jet recording for obtaining a high resolution and high quality recording image, 1) ink absorption should be as quick as possible, 2) ink dots should be adhered later when they overlap. Ink does not flow to the previous dot, 3) the diameter of the ink dot does not become larger than necessary, 4) the shape of the ink dot is close to a perfect circle, and its periphery is smooth, 5) ink It is necessary that the density of the dots is high and that the surroundings of the dots are not blurred, and that the required performances such as requirements are satisfied.

The recording material of the present invention is characterized by a unique surface state exhibited by the coating layer which functions as a recording liquid receiving layer. In other words, irregularly shaped inorganic pigment particles with a relatively large particle size, which are the main components of the coating layer, appear on the surface of the coating layer in a state of being randomly placed, and the absorption holes of the recording liquid are present between the particles. It has a structure in which a large number of large voids functioning as are scattered, and is typically shown in the state of FIG. Of course, the inorganic pigment particles appearing on these surfaces are also fixed in the coating layer by the binder and are not easily detached from the coating layer. FIG. 1 is an enlarged view obtained from a scanning electron microscope photograph of the surface of the coating layer of the recording material of the present invention at a magnification of about 1,500, which shows a surface state that should be expressed even if various kinds of debris are scattered. ing.

On the other hand, FIG. 2 is an enlarged view obtained from an electron micrograph of the surface of a recording material having a conventional coating layer at the same magnification. The surface of this recording material has a large number of fine pores serving as recording liquid absorption pores and has a surface structure in which the coating layer is flattened, and is clearly distinguished from the recording material of the present invention.

Thus, the surface of the coating layer of the recording material of the present invention has a large and large number of voids between the inorganic pigment particles which become the absorption holes of the recording liquid, and therefore when recording with the recording liquid is performed. The recording liquid is quickly absorbed in the spaces between the inorganic pigment particles, and the recording liquid has a large absorption capacity.

In order to obtain a structure in which the irregular shape of the inorganic pigment particles appears as if debris were scattered on the surface of the coating layer, the particle diameter of the inorganic pigment particles used is about 3 to 20 μm. If the particle size of the inorganic pigment particles is too large, the roundness of the ink dots will be impaired and the resolution of the recorded image will decrease, which is not preferable.

The inorganic pigment particles are preferably those having higher dye absorption, and more preferably those having a porous structure. This is because the coloring property becomes better when the recording material such as a dye in the recording liquid absorbed in the gaps between the inorganic pigment particles is supplemented to the outermost surface layer of the recording material.

The mixing ratio of the inorganic pigment particles and the binder in the coating liquid is appropriately 20 to 100 parts by weight of the binder with respect to 100 parts by weight of the inorganic pigment particles. In this way, the recording material of the present invention in which the coating layer having a unique surface state is provided on the support has a very high absorption of the recording liquid, and the recording liquids of different colors are the same within a short time. Even if they are adhered to the portions in duplicate, the recording liquid does not flow out or bleed out, and a high-resolution clear image is provided. Moreover, it exhibits excellent properties in color development, and is suitable as a recording material for inkjet recording when full-color recording is performed.
