Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the processing efficiency through the processing of another channel without being monopolized by channel processing by setting an interval from the reception of polling by a secondary station side till a reply is returned in the case of the polling from a primary station to the secondary station to relieve an overhead due to consecutive idle polling. CONSTITUTION: A primary station 10 is connected to a secondary station 12 and polling is made between the primary station 10 and the secondary station 12. The primary station 10 is controlled by a polling circuit 11 of the primary station and the secondary station 12 is controlled by a polling circuit 13 of the secondary station. Then the primary station 10 sends an RR.P to the secondary station 12 and awaits a reply from the secondary station 12. If no transmission data are in existence in the secondary station 12, the secondary station 12 returns an RR.F to the primary station 10 after a designated time interval. When the data to be sent are produced in the secondary station 12 during the interval, the secondary station 12 stops the interval and sends the data immediately.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a polling processing method on the secondary station side in a means (polling) for a primary station to receive a message from a secondary station, and is particularly suitable for an online system. Regarding the polling processing method.

2. Description of the Related Art In a polling processing method, as shown in, for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 61-157132, polling is performed by a side (primary station) that polls a secondary station having a low utilization rate. There was a method of reducing the frequency to reduce the overhead due to empty polling.

However, in the above prior art, the case where there are a large number of secondary stations with respect to the primary station is taken into consideration, but the case where the number of secondary stations is small is not taken into consideration. Therefore, when the polling frequency is low, 2
There was a problem that even if there was data to be transmitted at the next station, it could not be transmitted immediately.

According to the polling processing method of the present invention, when there is no data to be transmitted on the secondary station side in response to the polling from the primary station side, after a designated time interval is set on the secondary station side, 1
By sending a response to the next station, the overhead due to continuous empty polling is reduced. Further, when data is generated in the secondary station, the data can be transmitted immediately.

FIG. 1 shows an example of the configuration of an online system according to the present invention. The primary station 10 is connected to the secondary station 12, and polling is performed between the primary station 10 and the secondary station 12. The primary station 10 is controlled by the primary station side polling circuit 11, and the secondary station 12 is controlled by the secondary station side polling circuit 13. FIG. 2 shows an example of a polling sequence when there is no data to be transmitted by the secondary station. FIG. 3 is an example of a polling sequence when there is data to be transmitted by the secondary station. FIG. 4 shows an example of a polling sequence when data to be transmitted occurs during the interval.
The HDLC procedure is used in this example.
