A door check device for an automobile, comprising: a lever supported on a vehicle body side and having a ridge on an upper surface of the lever; and a holding member supported on a door side, the lever passing through the holding member. Formed by a holding case having an opening penetrating therethrough, a slider disposed inside the holding case and slidingly displacing the lever upper surface in response to the opening / closing operation of the door, and an elastic body urging the slider toward the lever upper surface side. The vehicle door check device is characterized in that a planar oil sump portion having a step is provided on both side surfaces of the elastic body that comes into contact with the inner wall surface of the holding case.
