Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent omission in a toner image even when transferring the toner image to a thick transfer material. CONSTITUTION: The toner image formed on the surface of a photo-receptor drum 1 is transferred onto a transfer material by a transfer roller 2 abutting on the surface at specific nip-pressure. At this time, in the case a stiff (thick) transfer material 11b is used, the nip-pressure is high and omission occurs. Therefore, for the transfer material 11b, in transfer, regist rollers 5, not regist rollers 4, are used, and also a guide face 6a is tilted by moving a transfer guide 6, which is situated downstream from a transfer nip part N, in the direction shown by the arrow R6. Thus, the transfer material 11b at the time of transfer is made to follow the surface of the photoreceptor 1, to reduce the nip-pressure.

However, according to the above-mentioned configuration, when the diameter of the photosensitive drum 1 is small, the transfer material 11 at the time of transfer has a high nip pressure and the photosensitive drum 1 has a high nip pressure.
As shown in FIG. 8, a part of the pressed toner 10 remains on the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 without being transferred to the transfer material 11, and a part of the toner image on the transfer material 11 is lost. This may cause a so-called hollow image.

According to the above construction, when a strong cardboard, for example, is used as the transfer material, the guide surface of the transfer guide is arranged at the second position. The transfer material onto which the toner image is transferred is guided by the guide surface at the second position into a curved surface shape according to the shape of the surface of the cylindrical photosensitive member. Therefore, the contact area between the surface of the photoconductor and the transfer material in the transfer nip portion is enlarged, and the nip pressure per unit area is reduced. Therefore, even if the transfer material has a strong stiffness, the hollow portion is unlikely to occur.

In the upstream side (right side in FIGS. 1 and 2) of the transfer nip portion N in the conveying direction of the transfer material 11, 2
A pair of registration rollers 4 and 5 are arranged. As shown in FIG. 1, the registration rollers 4 transfer the weak transfer material 11a stored in the paper feed cassette 3 and conveyed by a conveyance device such as a paper feed roller and a conveyance roller (not shown) at a predetermined timing. 2 is a roller for supplying the transfer nip portion N to the transfer nip portion N. On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 2, the registration roller 5 is a transfer material that is strong and has been conveyed from the manual feed tray 7 via a paper feed roller (not shown) or the like. A roller 11b is provided to the transfer nip portion N at a predetermined timing. Incidentally, in the conventional image forming apparatus, it is general that one pair of registration rollers are commonly used instead of individually providing the two pairs of registration rollers 4 and 5 as described above. A transfer guide 6 for guiding the transfer material 11 after the transfer of the toner image is provided on the downstream side of the vicinity of the transfer nip portion N. The transfer guide 6 has a swing center 6b at a base end portion on the upstream side, and a tip end portion on the downstream side is supported so as to be movable in a direction of an arrow R6 (see FIG. 2). The transfer guide 6 has a closed guide surface 6a on its upper surface, and the guide surface 6a is formed by the above-described swinging.
It is configured to have a first position P 1 (see FIG. 1) in which a is substantially horizontal and a second position P 2 (see FIG. 2) in which the downstream side is high.

In the image forming apparatus having the above structure, first,
A toner image is formed on the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 by a developing device or the like. Here, as shown in FIG. 1, when the transfer material 11a having a weak stiffness is selected, the transfer material 11a supplied from the paper feed cassette 3 is in a state in which the leading end of the transfer material 11a is brought into contact with the nip portion of the registration roller 4. Wait at. In addition, the transfer guide 6
Takes a first position P 1 whose surface is substantially horizontal. As a result, the nip portion of the registration roller 4, the transfer nip portion N, and the guide surface 6a of the transfer guide 6 are arranged on substantially the same plane. Therefore, the photosensitive drum 1

On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 2, when the transfer material 11b having a strong rigidity is selected, the following is performed. Transfer material 1
1b stands by with its tip in contact with the nip portion of the registration roller 5. Further, the transfer guide 6 has its tip moved in the direction of the arrow R6 to incline the guide surface 6a so that the downstream side becomes higher. As a result, the nip portion of the registration roller 5, the transfer nip portion N, and the guide surface 6a
The curved surface that gently connects and forms a gentle downward convex shape corresponding to the surface of the photosensitive drum 1. Therefore, the transfer material 11b supplied from the registration roller 5 toward the transfer nip portion N rises along the guide surface 6a after the transfer of the toner image, and the entire transfer material 11b at this time is as shown in FIG. In addition, a gentle curved surface corresponding to the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 is formed. For this reason, the contact surface between the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 and the transfer material 11b in the transfer nip portion N is enlarged, and the portion of the transfer material 11b located in the transfer nip portion N is separated from the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 in the direction. The force acts and the nip pressure is reduced. The reduction of the nip pressure prevents the occurrence of hollowing. <Second Embodiment> FIGS. 3 and 4 show a transfer mechanism of the second embodiment. 3 shows the transfer operation to the transfer material 11a having a weak stiffness, and FIG. 4 shows the transfer operation to the transfer material 11b having a strong stiffness.
