Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the display unit of a portable radio terminal equipment from which both a visually handicapped person and a visually normal person can easily read a displayed character. CONSTITUTION: This display unit is constituted with seven display elements 1a-1g, 2a-2g per one character. A movable part 2d-1 of the display elements is moved to the upper side by excitation of a solenoid 2d-2 and protruded from a cover 3. As the solenoid is not excited, a movable part 1d-1 of the display elements is pressed to the lower side by a spring 1d-3 and set to the same position as a surface of the cover. Tips of the movable part 1d-1, 2d-1 are formed with transparent or translucent material. Also, LEDs 1d-4, 2d-4 mounted on a LED substrate 5 are arranged inside the movable parts 1d-1 and 2d-1 respectively. The LED 1d-4 in the protruded movable part 2d-1 emits light and illuminates a tip of the movable part 2d-1.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventional displays for the visually impaired include:
For example, as disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 5-300776, a Braille display for displaying Braille by moving the projecting elements arranged on the dial up and down, or disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 4-122131. As described above, there is disclosed a display or the like that displays the shape of a character by undulating a large number of projections (for example, 5 × 7 dots).

However, in the former method, since braille is displayed by a large number of projection elements, a visually impaired person can read by the touch of a finger, but has no knowledge of braille but a normal visually impaired person. Can not read. In addition, since it is necessary to drive and control a large number of projection elements, it is difficult to reduce the size. In the latter case, since the shape of the character is displayed by a large number of protrusions, even a visually impaired person who cannot read Braille can recognize the character by the feel of his / her finger, but there is a drawback in that the character recognition takes longer than in the case of visual recognition.

As described above, according to the present invention, by illuminating the display element protruding from the display surface from the inside by the light emitting element, the visually impaired person does not have to touch the display surface with his / her finger and it is dark. Even in places, the displayed characters can be easily read visually. Furthermore, the number of display elements can be reduced by limiting each character to alphanumeric characters that can be displayed in seven segments and arranging seven display elements corresponding to the seven segments, so that the size of the display can be reduced. Not only that, the visually impaired can easily read the displayed characters by tactile sensation.
