Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable plural FPCs to b made into safe contact with a contact of the counterpart connector with low operation force and with high density by making FPC conductive patterns into contact with a contact of the counterpart connector by means of an action of lever. CONSTITUTION: First internal and external insulators 1 and 2 are combined and an operation rotation movement 5 is inserted into a hole part H so that a narrow width side is pinched between elastic plates 4a and 4b. In this status, the one end sides of FPCs 3a and 3b and elastic plates 4a and 4b are protruded in the accommodation groove of the counterpart connector of the insulators. A counterpart connector 6 is accommodated in the accommodation groove, the FPCs 3a and 3b and the elastic plates 4a and 4b are fitted to each contact 6a, then the conductive patterns of the FPCs 3a and 3b are brought into contact with the contact 6a when the cam is rotated approximately 90 degrees. This contact is performed by the action of lever by means of the elastic plates 4a and 4b, and stable contact can be obtained by means of low operation force.

Also, after fitting the mating connector,
A large number of connectors of this type have been developed (this type of connector is referred to as "ZIF-type connector") by driving the contacts of the mating connector or the FPC. For example, regarding the mechanical drive type, as an example, an electrical connector device disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 3-30273, and as another example, a modified high-density backplane connector disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 3-257775. As another example, as a connector using a shape memory alloy, there is a connector having high density and high signal integrity disclosed in JP-A-4-501338.

As described above, when the FPC is connected to the mating connector, if the reinforcing material is simply fixed to the connecting end portion of the FPC, the FPC is repeatedly inserted and removed.
The PC is easily damaged, and if the conductive pattern is damaged, it may cause poor contact. Therefore,
It is difficult to apply when arranging FPCs in multiple rows to achieve high density contact.

On the other hand, the ZIF connector also has various problems. For example, in the case of the mechanical drive type connector of the above-mentioned one example and the other example, since the driving member is moved to bring the respective contacts into contact after fitting the respective parts, the structure of the connector main body becomes large and complicated. In addition to the drawbacks of being small and difficult to achieve high density, there is also a problem that the operating force becomes large when the number of contacts is large and the strength must be increased in consideration of the rigidity of the driving member and the holding member. In addition, in the case of the connector of another example, there is an advantage that the mechanism for operating from the outside is unnecessary and the mechanical structure is downsized, but the expensive shape memory alloy is used and Since a dedicated heating section and circuit for changing the state are required, the connector itself becomes expensive and it becomes a different mode with additional functions other than the original function, and when the temperature changes greatly depending on the usage environment. There is also a risk of malfunction.

In the case of this FPC connection connector, the inner insulator 1 and the outer insulator 2 are combined, and the operation rotating cam 5 is inserted in the hole H between the other ends of the elastic plates 4a, 4b on the side of the narrow width thereof. In the state in which the FPC 3 is inserted as shown in FIG. 2, each FPC 3 is accommodated in the accommodation groove M of the external insulator 2 capable of accommodating the mating connector 6 as shown in FIG.
Since one end sides of a and 3b and one end sides of the elastic plates 4a and 4b are respectively projected, these respective parts can be fitted into the respective contacts 6a of the mating connector 6. Therefore, the mating connector 6 is housed in the housing groove M so that each FPC

The contact at this time is performed based on the principle of leverage, and both ends of each elastic plate 4a, 4b contact the operation rotary cam 5 and the contact 6d, respectively, and in the directions of the thick arrows from these positions. In addition to receiving the drag forces F1 and F3, the fulcrum mentioned above presses the conductive pattern P on the surface of the FPCs 3a and 3b against the contact 6a and receives the drag force F2 in the direction of the thick arrow from this press contact point (however, in the figure, FPC
3a and elastic plate 4a only). Here, with respect to each elastic plate 4a, 4b, from the other end side and the contact point of the operation rotation cam 5, the tip end on one end side and the contact 6a.
Is L, the distance from the contact point of the other end side and the operation rotary cam 5 to the contact point of the one end side and the contact 6a is x, and the contact point of the one end side and the contact 6a From the location to the tip on one end side and the contact 6a
Assuming a relationship of L = x + y where y is the distance to the contact point, each drag force F1, F2, F3 and each distance L,
F1 × L = F due to the relation of rotational moment between x and y
The relationship of 2 × y, F1 × x = F3 × y holds. As a result, two relational expressions F1 = F2 · y / L and F1 = F3 · y / x are obtained with respect to the drag force F1 when the operation cam 5 is operated. These relational expressions suggest that by increasing x and L with respect to y, the drag forces F2 and F3 related to the required contact force can be obtained with a small drag force F1.
Therefore, the contact here is stably performed with a low operation force.
