Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent non-baking, etc., of a thick film part by drying and baking in an oven and to eliminate the induction of a line trouble by correcting the thick film part of the coating material to be generated at the time of changing a coating material curtain between a down flow state and a shut off state to an adequate film thickness or below. CONSTITUTION:The coating material 8 is discharged downward from the spacing between a rotating coating roll 1a and a doctor roll 1b. The discharged coating material 8 is scraped off by a blade 2 and is made to flow down by forming the coating material curtain 7; thereafter, the coating material is applied on the front surface of the traveling material 6 to be coated. A coating material receiving pan 3 is retreated by a forward and backward moving mechanism 4 to change the coating material curtain 7 from the shut off state to the downflow state at the time of starting the coating. The shutter 41 is retreated by the forward and backward moving mechanism 42. Further, a leveling off roll 11 is lowered by a lifting mechanism 12 thereof and is brought into contact with the material 6 to be coated. The thick film part 9 at the front end of beginning of the coating of the material 6 to be coated is leveled off by the leveling off roll 11 and is thereby thinly leveled off.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a slit method and an overflow method are known as a coating technology by curtain flow. For example, the slit method supplies paint to the head,
Discharge from the slit gap to make a curtain shape. In this method, the paint viscosity and slit spacing are adjusted to obtain a predetermined coating film thickness. Further, in the overflow method, while the paint is diluted with a solvent, properties such as surface tension and viscosity of the paint are changed to adjust the paint viscosity to an appropriate value, and the paint is overflowed from a container to form a curtain. In this method, the coating viscosity is adjusted to obtain a predetermined coating film thickness.

When the coating of the object to be coated 6 is started or the coating is interrupted or ended by the above-mentioned roller curtain coater device, the paint receiving pan 3 is moved backward and forward by using the forward / backward moving mechanism 4. (The opposite side of the paint curtain 7)
Alternatively, the paint curtain 7 is moved forward (on the side of the paint curtain 7) to change the paint curtain 7 from the blocked state to the flow-down state or from the flow-down state to the blocked state. The tip (paint curtain 7 side) drags the paint curtain 7, and when the viscosity is low, the curtain 7 is torn off from the central part of the dragged portion and falls in a thick film state, or when the viscosity is high, the paint curtain 7 The thick-film-state paint that has been dragged and separated from the tip of the paint-receiving pan 3 falls on the object 6 to be coated, and forms a thick-film portion (a coating-starting tip thick-film portion 9 at the start of coating). The thick film portion 9 may cause armpits in subsequent drying / baking in an oven, or may become unbaked when the film thickness is very thick, and stain the inside of the oven to cause a poor paint appearance of the article 6 to be coated. Alternatively, the line roll after the oven was contaminated, which often caused a line trouble.

Further, as in Japanese Patent Application No. 4-19761, the shape of the cut portion of the paint curtain 7 at the tip of the paint receiving pan 3 (on the side of the paint curtain 7) has an internal angle of 90 to 180 ° or a smooth circular inclined shape. Although there is a proposal to make it, the optimum shape of this shape differs depending on the physical properties of the paint and the thickness of the paint curtain 7, and the optimum shape is obtained for a certain paint physical property and the thickness of the paint curtain 7. Also, generally, the same roller curtain coater performs various types of coating, for example, from low viscosity to high viscosity in viscosity, or from thin film to thick film in terms of coating thickness. The tip shape of the paint receiving pan 3 needs to be replaced, and the work is complicated and impractical.
