Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a board mounting type electric connector structured to be protected so that a fixing metal plate to be mounted on a housing side wall is prevented from being deformed. CONSTITUTION:Each board mounting type electric connector 10 is equipped with a metal plate 13 for fixing a housing on a plate protection part 12 on the side wall of a housing 11. The plate protection part 12 is provided with an external wall 22 positioned to surround a metal plate 13. The metal plate 13 is provided with a soldering part 19 to be soldered and connected to traces on a printed circuit board. The end part 21 of the soldering part 19 is not projected to the outside from the external surface 23 of the housing 11, therefore, even if board mounting type electric connectors 10 are arranged in the lateral direction, the metal plates 13 make no mutual interference.

This type of electrical connector may be arranged side by side in a row in the lateral direction during assembly or the like. At that time, the metal plate extending to the side of the electric connector mutually interferes with the metal plate of the adjacent electric connector, and the metal plate is deformed. This deformation causes problems such as insufficient fixing strength during mounting on a printed circuit board, which has been a problem.

An electrical connector having a metal plate having a shape designed to suppress this deformation is disclosed, for example, on pages 251 and 259 of the 1993 product catalog of Japan Molex. The soldered portion of the metal plate extends along the bottom surface of the housing to the outside of the housing, and its tip is bent substantially vertically and extends upward. However, although the metal plate of this shape suppresses the interference of the soldering part, the deformation of the metal plate cannot be completely suppressed because the plate surfaces facing upward are contacted, and since the shape is special, When soldering, the position of the electrical connector was displaced due to flux rising, which was a problem.

A metal plate is fixedly arranged on the side wall of the electrical connector of the present invention. The metal plate has a mounting portion fixed to the housing and a soldering portion soldered to the substrate. The soldered portion is bent and formed in a substantially right-angled direction from the surface of the mounting portion, and extends outward. The housing has a plate protector near the side wall. The plate protector is formed to hold the metal plate and surround and protect the metal plate. Therefore, the end of the soldering portion of the metal plate is arranged so as to be located on the same surface as the outer surface of the plate protecting portion of the housing or inward of the outer surface (that is, substantially inside the outer surface), and the soldering portion projects outward There is no such thing. The outer wall of the plate protector is arranged so as to surround the metal plate. Therefore, even if the electrical connectors are arranged side by side, the adjacent metal plates do not interfere with each other.

Further, a shelf is formed on the bottom surface of the plate protection portion of the housing by raising the bottom if necessary. That is, the outer wall of the plate protection portion has a bottom end above the bottom surface of the housing. This prevents the electrical connector housing from interfering with the metal plate of the laterally adjacent electrical connector.

The shape of the terminal 14 is shown in FIG. Each of the terminals 14 has a press-fitting portion 15 having a protrusion for press-fitting and fixing in the housing 11, a leg 16 extending substantially vertically from the bottom end of the press-fitting portion 15 in a lateral direction, and a stepwise shape formed at the tip of the leg 16. The spring contact portion 18 that extends laterally from the vicinity of the roots of the solder connection portion 17 and the press-fitting portion 15 and that extends upward and has elasticity.
Have. An inclined surface (tapered surface) is formed at the tip of the spring contact portion 18. In the terminal 14, the press-fitting portion 15 is press-fitted into the housing 11 and the leg is fixed by abutting on a part of the housing 11. As a result, the spring contact portion 18 is elastically arranged in the lateral direction. The solder connection part 17 of the terminal 14 is a metal plate

The electrical connectors 10 and 26 are formed so that they can be fitted to each other. That is, the printed circuit boards are connected to each other by fitting them together. The electrical connector 26 receives two types of terminals 28 and 29 having different shapes. The terminals 28 and 29 are both formed of a metal plate having less elasticity. The terminal 28 is placed in the housing 27 by press fitting from the fitting surface side and the terminal 29 from the side opposite to the fitting surface. The terminal 14 of the electrical connector 10 has a contact portion 30 of a terminal 28 on one side and a contact portion of a terminal 29 on the opposite side.
It contacts 31 and is electrically connected. Solder connection parts 32 and 33 are formed at the ends of the terminals 28 and 29 on the substrate surface side, respectively. Due to the characteristic shape of these terminals 14, 28, 29, a connection having a long effective mating length and resistance against twisting is realized.
