Abstract

PURPOSE:To extend the available service time of a built-in battery by providing a piezoelectric conversion means to a pen point so as to convert a pressure exerted to the pen point into an electricity for each pen input thereby charging the built-in battery. CONSTITUTION:The pen inputting device uses a cordless pens incorporating a battery. In the case of the input by the pen inputting device, a pen point is pressed onto a face, then it is regarded that a specific event takes place. Thereby, a pressure is exerted to the pen point at use time. The pen point is provided with a piezoelectric conversion means sensing the pressure and converting it into an electric power. In this embodiment, a semiconductor pressure sensor of a piezoelectric circuit converts a pressure into an electric current. The current is inputted to a charging circuit section, in which the power is converted into a voltage so as to charge the power to a chargeable battery of the pen. The built-in battery is charged for each pen input to charge the built-in battery more frequently by a person using the pen inputting device more thereby reducing trouble of battery replacement.

An ultrasonic method or the like is used. Among these, for the type in which the pen is on the output side, a power supply line is inserted into the cord to supply the voltage, but a battery is built in to supply the voltage to the pen. As an example, an electromagnetic induction type cordless pen with a built-in battery will be described. 4 is a structural diagram of the cordless pen with a built-in battery, FIG. 5 is a block diagram showing the operation of the cordless pen with a built-in battery, and FIG. 6 is a configuration diagram of the entire electromagnetic induction system. As shown in FIG. 5, a current is passed through the coil part of the pen by the electric power generated from the battery part,
Output in a specific frequency band. Next, as shown in FIG. 6, a current is caused to flow through the sensor unit that is coiled by a signal output from the pen unit by electromagnetic induction, and the current value is converted into XY coordinates by the pen sensing unit. The built-in battery of this pen is a disposable type.
