Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the rubbing of a developing roller against the surface of a photosensitive body which is being rotated and to prolong the life of the photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:By rotating the photosensitive body 11 and performing write after electrostatic charging, an electrostatic latent image is formed on the photosensitive body 11. While the photosensitive body 11 is being rotated, a developing roller 26 is rotated at higher circumferential speed than the photosensitive body 11 in accordance with developing timing for the electrostatic latent image, that is, a rotating period from a mark t4. to a mark t5 to form the image on the photosensitive body. Meanwhile, the developing roller 26 is rotated at nearly the same circumferential speed as the photosensitive body 11 in other rotating period of the photosensitive body 11, that is, the rotating periods from a mark t1 to the mark t4, and from the mark t5 to a mark t8.

However, in the conventional laser printer of this type, since the surface of the photoconductor 1 is rubbed by the developing roller 2 from the start to the end of the rotation of the photoconductor 1, the photoconductor 1 is rubbed. There is a problem that the surface is worn and its life is shortened. Therefore, an object of the present invention is to reduce the friction between the surface of the photoconductor and the developing roller during the rotation of the photoconductor to prolong the life of the photoconductor.

However, when recording with time after the power is turned on, as shown in the drawing, writing is performed with the peripheral speed Vp of the photoconductor 11 as v 1 . While the photoconductor 11 is rotating,
The developing roller 26 rotates at substantially the same peripheral speed v 1 as that of the photoconductor 11 until the writing portion of the photoconductor 11 reaches the developing position, for example, during a rotation period up to t 3 in the drawing.
Then, the relative speed between the photoconductor 11 and the developing roller 26 is made substantially zero. Therefore, according to the first aspect of the present invention, the developing roller is rotated at a peripheral speed higher than that of the photosensitive member in accordance with the developing timing, while the developing roller is rotated during the rotation period of other photosensitive members. -Since the relative speed between the roller and the photoconductor is substantially zero, according to the second aspect of the invention, the developing roller is brought into contact with the photoconductor at the development timing, while the other photoconductors are exposed. Since the developing roller and the photoconductor are not in contact with each other during the rotation of the body, the time of rubbing between the surface of the photoconductor and the developing roller can be shortened during the rotation of the photoconductor. The wear of the photosensitive member can be reduced and the life of the photosensitive member can be extended.

1. A photosensitive member is rotated to perform writing after charging, an electrostatic latent image is formed on the photosensitive member, toner is attached by a developing roller to develop the latent image, and the photosensitive member is developed. In an electrophotographic apparatus for forming an image on an upper surface and transferring the image to record on a sheet, the developing roller is rotated at a peripheral speed higher than that of the photoconductor in synchronization with the developing timing of the electrostatic latent image. An electrophotographic apparatus in which the developing roller is rotated at substantially the same peripheral speed as the photosensitive member during the other rotation period of the photosensitive member.
