Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain automatic connection, and improve productivity by fitting a terminal to the electrode pole of a lead-acid battery, pressing the horn top end part of an ultrasonic vibrator onto the top end part of the pole plate, and lowering it with ultrasonic vibration. CONSTITUTION:The terminal 7 of a lead-acid battery has a circular hole fittable from the upper end of a pole plate 6 formed thereon, and the terminal 7 is fitted to the plate 6 protruded into the recessed part of a lid 5. An ultrasonic vibrator is lowered, and the top end part of a horn 3 is pressed onto the top end of the plate 6. The ultrasonic vibrator is then lowered while transmitting the ultrasonic vibration generated by it to the horn 3 top end to crush the plate 6, and the crushed part is caulked with the terminal 7. The horn 3 is then raised, and the connection of the terminal 7 is completed. Thus, productivity is improved because of the automatic connection without applying a flux, and uniform connection can be attained because of the mechanical and automatic connection.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, as a method of joining a pole and a terminal in a lead storage battery, a gas burner has mainly been used for manual or automatic welding. However, this method is difficult to work and uniform welding is not possible. Since it is difficult to do, a method of applying a heated iron to the tip of the pole and welding it to the terminal has been adopted.

The method using a heated trowel described in the prior art is fairly frequent because the surface of the trowel becomes hot and is covered with an oxide film, which significantly reduces the thermal conductivity. There is a problem in that workability is reduced because it is necessary to apply flux or the like to surface-treat the trowel.

In order to achieve the above-mentioned object, the present invention fits a lead storage battery terminal to a pole column of a lead storage battery, and a horn tip portion of an ultrasonic vibrator is attached to the tip portion of the pole column. Is abutted, and the tip of the horn is lowered while ultrasonically vibrating to plastically deform the tip of the pole, thereby joining the terminal and the pole.

Next, a method of joining the poles and the terminals using the above device will be described. As shown in FIG. 2, the terminal 7 is fitted into the pole 6 protruding into the recess of the lid 5 of the lead storage battery.
The terminal 7 is formed with a circular hole (not shown) that can be fitted from the upper end of the pole 6. Then, the ultrasonic vibrator 1 is lowered and the tip of the horn 3 is brought into contact with the tip of the pole 6. Next, as shown in FIG. 3, while the ultrasonic vibration generated by the ultrasonic generator 2 is transmitted to the tip of the horn 3, the horn 3 is moved down to make the pole 6
Is crushed, and the crushed part and the terminal 7 are crimped. Next, as shown in FIG. 4, the horn 3 is raised to complete the joining of the terminals.
