Description of the Related Art The above-mentioned paper friction material is usually used in oil and has excellent durability, so that it is used in automatic transmissions for automobiles. As a constituent material of the friction material, a thermosetting resin such as a phenol resin and a friction modifier such as graphite powder and organic dust are used as main components, and an organic fiber or a carbon fiber is used as a reinforcing material. The paper friction material has conventionally been required to have good compression fatigue peel resistance and stability of friction coefficient.
In order to solve this problem, improvement studies have been continued, but it is still insufficient, and further improvements have been desired.

Therefore, by mixing the spherical particles in the paper friction material, the compressive stress applied to the friction material can be supported by the spherical particles, so that it is possible to improve the compressive strength of the paper friction material. The peelability is improved. Further, since the spherical particles are less likely to be broken in shape, a stable friction surface can be obtained, which in turn stabilizes the friction characteristics.

And the compounding ratio of these spherical particles is preferably 5 to 30%, and 5
If it is less than%, the effect is small, while if it exceeds 30%, the strength of the paper decreases. Further, when the amount of the spherical particles blended increases, the dispersibility in the base material becomes a problem, but in that case, it can be solved by attaching short fibers or whiskers to the surface of the particles to make them fluff.

A paper friction material of the present invention containing 20% of spherical particles of a phenol resin and a conventional paper friction material containing no spherical particles were prepared, and a compression strength test was conducted at an oil temperature of 120 ° C and a surface pressure of 125 kgf / cm 2. Then, the test cycle when peeling of these friction materials started was measured, and the results are shown in Table 1.
