By reading the data regarding the printing pattern of the banknote 1 each time the banknote 1 moves by a predetermined transport length, and comparing the data with the data regarding the printing pattern of the genuine banknote stored in the memory in advance, the authenticity of the banknote is verified. Was generally determined. Here, the optical sensor 3 is composed of a light emitting unit 4 and a light receiving unit 5, and the light emitting unit 4 emits a visible light of a certain amount of light using an LED or the like as a light source, and the visible light emitted from the light emitting unit 4 is a bill. 1 is irradiated with the bill 1
Reflected on the surface of. Since the amount of the reflected light changes depending on the color or shade of the print pattern, the light receiving unit 5 detects the pattern by receiving the reflected light and converting it into an electric signal corresponding to the amount of light.

It was Therefore, for example, in addition to the method of detecting the magnetism contained in the ink and comparing it with the magnetic pattern of the genuine bill stored in the memory in advance, it is necessary to use another method with a relatively complicated configuration in combination. Therefore, the configuration of the device becomes complicated, and the data must be increased in order to improve the identification accuracy. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the memory capacity and the CPU speed for comparison. As a result, there is a problem that the cost of the device is increased. Further, some of the inks (toners) used in some color copiers have magnetic characteristics similar to those of genuine bills, and in some cases, the fake bills copied by such devices cannot be eliminated.

The infrared sensor 6 provided at a predetermined position 2 moves the banknote 1 by a predetermined transfer length based on the data from the position detection means 7 which operates in association with the transfer means 2 regarding the print pattern of the banknote 1. C and the data relating to the printing pattern of the genuine bill of the bill to be identified, which is stored in the memory 8 in advance.
The authenticity of banknotes is identified by making a comparison with PU9.

The light emitting unit 10 is configured to emit a constant amount of infrared light using an LED or the like capable of emitting infrared light as a light source. The infrared light emitted from the light emitting unit 10 is applied to the banknote 1 and Reflect on the surface. The light receiving section 11 receives the reflected infrared light and converts it into an electric signal corresponding to the quantity of the light, and the quantity of the reflected light changes according to the color or the shade of the print pattern. It can be detected as an electric signal.

This means that the print pattern copied by the specific color copying machine can be recognized as a pattern in visible light, but it is recognized as a blank state in infrared light, that is, as a blank sheet. The inventors of the present invention found out and applied this to the authentication of banknotes and the like.

となる。For example, in the case of a bill in which the patterns A, B and C are printed on the surface of the paper piece 12 as shown in FIG. 3 (a), if the bill inserted in the apparatus is a genuine bill, the same as shown in FIG. 3 (b). As described above, although the sensor outputs exhibiting the levels 13 to 15 corresponding to the symbols A, B, and C and the level 16 related to the paper piece 12 are obtained, when the fake banknotes copied by using the specific color copying machine are inserted (c) in FIG. ), Only the level 16 relating to the paper piece 12 is output, and it is possible to easily and clearly identify the fake bill. Therefore, as described above, according to the present invention, the identification capability of the optical sensor type authentication identification device having a relatively simple structure is improved, and the load on other systems used in combination is reduced.
It is possible to minimize the speed and the memory capacity.

It is obvious that the invention may be applied to a device for identifying a print pattern of a paper sheet including other securities such as a gift certificate, and the infrared light of an infrared sensor is configured to pass through the paper sheet. The same result can be obtained by using the transmitted light type infrared sensor.
