(57)【要約】 【目的】 犬の歯の表面から歯垢および歯石を除去する
のに特に効果的である噛み玩具を提供することを目的と
する。 【構成】 表面にわたって分布された鋭い円錐状のスパ
イクを有する形態で成形された硬く且つ強靱な材料より
なる犬用の骨状治療噛み玩具装置。犬がこの装置を噛む
と、スパイクが犬の歯の種々の表面に接触する。これら
のスパイクは蓄積された歯石および歯垢を掻き取るのに
十分な硬さのものである。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は犬用の噛み玩具に関し、
特に、犬の歯に有利な効果を及ぼす噛み玩具に関する。
【０００２】
【従来技術および発明が解決しようとする課題】犬の歯
に蓄積する傾向がある歯垢および歯石を除去しようとす
る幾つかの装置が開発されてきた。このような装置は犬
の飼い主が好ましくは毎食事後に犬の歯をブラシ掛けす
ることを必要とする種々のブラシ形態を有している。か
かる清浄は効果的であるが、かなり時間がかかり、犬は
必ずしも協力的ではなく、その結果、このような摂生
は、一般的には、長期間に亘っては堅持されない。従来
技術に見られる種々のこすりおとし／マッサージ装置に
は、同様な問題が関連している。別の方法は、噛み砕き
中に噛み材料が破壊されるときに歯の表面をこすってき
れいにするように、十分に硬く且つ研磨性の成分で形成
される食用噛み物を犬に与える方法であった。食用であ
り、十分に硬く且つ研磨性である材料を選択するに当た
って困難が生じる。このような噛み物は、材料を飲み込
む前に犬の歯表面のかなりの部分が接触されるように、
破壊前に可なりの処置および力に耐えることができなけ
ればならない。犬の歯をきれいに保とうとする努力で発
明された他の方法は、非食用噛み玩具である。このよう
な装置は、代表的には、悪化することなしに長い且つ繰
り返しの噛み作用に耐えるようになっており、噛み玩具
は蓄積された歯石および歯垢をこすってきれいにしたり
擦り取ったりするように役立つ。犬はこの玩具で遊ぶこ
とによって自身の歯を自動的にきれいにする。これらの
従来の装置の欠点はそれらの限られた効力にある。これ
らの特定の形状および形態は、しばしば、歯表面との適
切な接触を妨げ、および／またはしばしば、接触がなさ
れるとき、望ましくない堆積物を除去するのに限られた
能力しか有していない。
【０００３】噛み玩具が比較的柔らかく且つ可撓性の材
料で形成されている場合、モールドからしか取り出すこ
とができるない形状を有する装置では、従来技術の欠点
の典型例が明らかである。このような装置は噛んでいる
ときに犬の歯表面のほとんどと接触させる形状を有して
いるが、その必然的な比較的柔らかく且つ可撓性の組成
は、噛み玩具の接触面が歯の表面と接触したときに所期
の効果を及ぼすのを妨げている。従って、犬が噛むとき
に犬の歯から堆積歯垢および歯石を効果的に除去する噛
み玩具が必要とされる。これは、種々の歯表面が接触さ
れるために噛み玩具が適切に成形されていることを必要
とし、また、蓄積物を接触したときに除去することを必
要としている。本発明は犬の歯の表面から歯垢および歯
石を除去するのに特に効果的である噛み玩具を提供する
ことにより従来技術の不都合および欠点を解消すること
を目的とする。

【課題を解決する手段】上記目的は、硬く且つ強靱なエ
ラストマ材料製の成形物の全表面にわたって複数の鋭い
スパイクを位置決めすることにより達成される。この装
置は、好ましくは、細長い本体部材と、その両端部に球
根状形状すなわちノブとを有する概ね骨状になってお
り、両端部も同様にそこから延びる鋭いスパイクを有し
ている。この装置は特定の犬の大きさに合うように寸法
決めされており、すなわち、装置は犬がこれを飲み込ま
ないようにするのに十分な大きさのものであるべきであ
る。エラストマに浸出可能なハム香気を組み入れること
により、犬は長い時間にわたってこの装置に引きつけら
れ、これを噛む傾向がある。球根状端部を含めて、噛み
玩具全体にわたって個々のスパイクの隔置および分布に
より、犬の歯およびゴム質の表面のほとんどが接触され
る。個々のスパイクの構成、すなわち、それらの鋭さ
と、装置の構成に使用された材料の実質的な硬さとの組
み合わせにより、犬の顎が圧力を加えると、スパイクが
いずれの蓄積歯石および歯垢をも歯から効果的に掻き取
る。犬がしがちな装置の任意の長い噛みおよび齧り作用
が蓄積物の殆どを除去するのに役立つ。
【０００５】本発明のこれらの、及び、その他の特徴
は、本発明の一例として示す添付図面と関連してなされ
た以下の詳細な実施例から明らかになろう。

【実施例】図面は本発明による骨形治療噛み玩具装置を
示している。この装置を噛んだり齧ったりすることによ
って、犬の歯および歯茎から蓄積された歯垢および歯石
が除去される。かかる堆積物の除去は、歯破壊細菌群体
の発育障害とともに、虫歯を防ぐのを助ける。本発明の
図示の実施例は、細長い本体１３と、拡大球根状形状す
なわちノブ１５よりなる端部とを有する骨の形態に形作
られた成形物１２を有する。成形物の表面は外方に延び
る多数の鋭いスパイク１４を有している。各スパイク１
４は形状が円錐形であって、鋭い先端１６で終わってい
る。これらのスパイクは、本体１３および球根状端部１
５を含む成形物１２全体にわたって分布されている。こ
の装置は剛性材料、例えば、５０〜９０のジュロメータ
硬度を有するポリウレタン、ポリエチレン、ポリエステ
ルまたはナイロンのようなポリアミドで成形されてい
る。この装置は好ましくは射出成形され、材料を射出前
に溶融し、次いで材料を冷却して硬化した後、モールド
から取り出す。１９８７年６月２３日に発行された本出
願人の米国特許第 4,674,444号に開示されているような
方法により、浸出可能な魅力向上剤、例えば、ハム骨香
気および／または風味をエラストマー組成物に添加する
がよい。
【０００７】使用にあたり、装置を噛むように犬に与え
る。特定の犬の自然のじゃれ性により、或いは装置のハ
ム骨香気により、或いは犬が装置を破壊することができ
ない欲求不満により、犬は装置を噛んだり齧ったりする
のに可なりの時間および試みを費やす傾向がある。装置
の骨状形状は犬に対する魅力に寄与するものと思われ
る。装置を犬の口の中で動かしまわって噛ますと、この
装置は多くの異なる角度で且つ多くの異なる配向で接触
される。これにより、多くの硬く鋭い先部が犬の歯およ
びガム質表面のすべてではないが殆どに接触する。かか
る接触の可能性はノブ１５が本体１３に対して両垂直方
向に延びていることにより高められる。装置の端部の球
根状ノブから延びているスパイクは歯茎ライン近くの犬
の歯の内面と接触することができる。各スパイクの鋭さ
および材料の固有の硬度により、蓄積された歯垢および
歯石は、犬の顎が装置にのしかかると、歯からけずり落
とされる。これにより、犬は、その玩具での遊びを楽し
みながら、事実上、自身の歯をきれいにして虫歯を防
ぐ。

Claims (10)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 硬く、丈夫な材料で形成された犬用の治
    療噛み玩具装置において、 上記犬が上記装置を飲み込まないようにするのに十分な
    大きさの本体と、 上記本体から延び、犬の歯の表面の実質的にすべてと接
    触し、犬が上記装置を噛むと、歯垢および歯石蓄積物を
    除去するのに役立つように、間隔を隔てられ、分布され
    た複数の細長い鋭いスパイクとを有する、犬用の治療噛
    み玩具装置。
  2. 【請求項２】 上記本体は上記主本体の端部に球根状ノ
    ブを有しており、これらのノブも同様にそれらから延び
    る鋭いスパイクを有していることを特徴とする請求項１
    に記載の装置。
  3. 【請求項３】 上記スパイクは上記本体と一体に形成さ
    れていることを特徴とする請求項１に記載の装置。
  4. 【請求項４】 上記スパイクは細長い円錐形状を有して
    いることを特徴とする請求項２に記載の装置。
  5. 【請求項５】 上記ノブは上記主本体に対して両垂直方
    向に延びていることを特徴とする請求項２に記載の装
    置。
  6. 【請求項６】 上記材料は５０〜９０のジュロメータ硬
    度を有していることを特徴とする請求項２に記載の装
    置。
  7. 【請求項７】 装置を形成する材料に魅力向上剤を添加
    することを特徴とする請求項２に記載の装置。
  8. 【請求項８】 ノブは上記主本体に対して両垂直方向に
    延びていることを特徴とする請求項２に記載の装置。
  9. 【請求項９】 上記材料はポリウレタンよりなることを
    特徴とする請求項６に記載の装置。
  10. 【請求項１０】 ノブは上記主本体に対して両垂直方向
    に延びていることを特徴とする請求項７に記載の装置。
