Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove lines with the same polarity between frames, to prolong the life of a liquid crystal pannel and to suppress a flicker in a display image by reversing the polarity at every one frame (two fields). CONSTITUTION:At the time of AC driving with a twice write drive system or a two rows simultaneous system, the polarity is reversed at every one frame of a pixel 2 in a liquid crystal pannel 1, and the polarity is reversed at every two lines in a field constituting each frame. That is, the polarity of the second lines of first and second fields in a first frame are reversed to the same of the second lines of third and fourth fields in a second frame, and further, the sames of the fourth lines, etc., in the same fields as the abovementioned fields are reversed to each other as well. Thus, though the frequency of the flicker in the display image becomes low, the flicker is inconspicious since the phase of a peripheral pixel 2 is reversed, and the flicker is suppressed, and the life of the liquid crystal pannel 1 is prolonged.

However, in the above-mentioned liquid crystal panel driving method, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the second and fourth lines of the first and second fields of the first frame are used. Have the same polarity, and the same line has the same polarity for each frame, so that a DC component remains in the pixel 2 portion of each line, which only deteriorates the life of the liquid crystal panel 1. Instead, flicker will occur on the display screen.

With the above method, the polarities of the horizontal lines (2 lines) of the liquid crystal panel are inverted every frame, that is, the first field and the second line of the first frame.
The polarity reversal of the field of
Since the polarities in the third field and the fourth field, which correspond to the frame, are reversed, there is no horizontal line that remains the same polarity. As a result, the flicker frequency of the display image on the liquid crystal panel becomes as low as 15 Hz, but since the phases of the surrounding pixels are inverted, the flicker is inconspicuous and, as a result, the flicker can be suppressed. Moreover, the life of the liquid crystal panel can be further extended.

As a result, when the liquid crystal panel 1 is driven, the frequency of the flicker of the display image on the liquid crystal panel 1 becomes as low as 15 Hz, but the flicker is noticeable because the phases of the surrounding pixels are inverted.
