Generally, in an electrophotographic copying apparatus, an electrostatic latent image corresponding to an image of an original is formed on a charge carrier using an insulating photoconductor as a photoconductor by corona charging and light irradiation, and is developed with a toner developer. By doing so, a visible image is formed. The toner image on the charge carrier is transferred onto a copying material, such as a transfer paper, by a corona discharge, an electric transfer method using a bias roller or the like, or a physical means such as pressing or heating. Then, the toner image transferred on the transfer paper is fixed on the transfer paper by the usual heating means, and the image forming process is completed. On the other hand, the residual charges and the residual toner image remaining on the photoconductor after the transfer are removed by a charge removing and cleaning process, and the above cycle is repeated again.

In the case of cassette feeding, transfer sheets cut to a predetermined size are stacked and stored in the cassette 1 and inserted into the main body of the copying machine in the arrow direction, that is, the feeding direction. When the copy button is pressed, the first paper feed roller 2 (paper feed member) starts to rotate.
As a result, one transfer sheet in the uppermost layer in the cassette 1 is sent out by the first sheet feeding roller 2 and then reaches the second sheet feeding roller 4 (transfer section conveying roller) which rotates in pressure contact with each other. In synchronism with the movement of the platen, the rollers 4 clamp the paper and feed it, and reach the surface of the photoconductor 5 carrying a visible toner image by the copying, charging, exposing and developing steps. Here, the toner image is transferred onto the transfer paper P 1 by the transfer device 6. Further, the transfer paper is fed, separated from the surface of the photoconductor 5 by the separating means 7 and conveyed, and discharged by the discharging means 9 to the outside of the apparatus.

In such a copying apparatus, a paper feeding device for accommodating and feeding the transfer paper includes a transfer material stacking means for accumulating and accommodating a large number of transfer papers in a laminated form, and the transfer material when recording is required. It is composed of a transfer device that takes out the transfer sheets one by one from the stacking means, controls and feeds them, sends them to the recording portion, and discharges them out of the device after the recording is completed. Further, as the transfer material stacking means, two types of a sheet feeding cassette type and a sheet feeding tray type (so-called table type) are mainly used.

The paper feed cassette type means that a box-shaped case for accommodating a large number of transfer sheets as a transfer material in a stacked state is detachable from the copying machine body, replenishment and loading of transfer sheets, change of transfer sheet size, and different types. When changing and loading the transfer paper, etc., the above-mentioned paper feed cassette is taken out of the copying machine, and thereafter, it is loaded in the transfer material feeding position of the copying machine to start recording. In this paper feed cassette type, the front end of the paper feed cassette is inserted into the opening of the apparatus and mounted, and the insertion direction of the paper feed cassette is the same as the transfer paper feeding direction as shown in FIG. It projects to the side of the device. This type of paper feed cassette type has the advantage that the copying machine main body can be made compact, but the paper feed cassette protrudes to the side of the device and further requires an extra side space for attachment and detachment. The operability for attaching and detaching the paper cassette is poor.

Next, the paper tray type generally means opening the shielding door on the front or side of the device, then pulling out the paper tray in the device (also called the paper feeding table) to a predetermined position, and transferring it on the paper tray. The paper is replenished and loaded, the transfer paper size is changed, the different transfer paper is changed and loaded, and then the paper tray is again stored in a predetermined transfer paper feed position in the apparatus, and the shielding door is closed to record. Is what starts. In this type of paper feed tray type, one or a plurality of paper feed trays are used without being connected to the inside of the apparatus main body, and transfer papers of various sizes are set at predetermined positions by a transfer paper positioning guide and a movable guide. And after mounting in the main body of the device, a light-shielding door is required for light-shielding and security, and every time transfer paper is replenished,
This light-blocking door must be opened, and in addition, each part inside the device is exposed, which may be dangerous in operation.

Incidentally, in addition to the transfer papers stacked in the transfer material stack means by the above-mentioned paper feed cassette or paper feed tray, the transfer papers are inserted one by one from the outside of the copying apparatus to perform copying, that is, a so-called manual paper feeding type. In some cases, the stacking means may be used in combination with any of the paper feeding methods.

As described above, the conventional copying machine has the following drawbacks in relation to the manual feeding of two types of stack feeding. In the paper feed cassette type, the paper feed cassette protrudes to the side of the main body of the apparatus, which requires an extra lateral space, and if a manual guide plate is attached, the operability of attaching and detaching the paper feed cassette becomes worse. The paper tray type is generally applied to a floor-standing type large copying machine, and its stacking means and paper feeding path are provided near the floor, and the manual feeding path is fed from the stacking means. It is difficult to combine the paper paths. Furthermore, as disclosed in Japanese Patent Publication No. 50-29651, the paper feed roller must be manually lifted when it is inserted from the front of the main body of the paper feed device 55, which is troublesome.

Further, generally, when inserting the transfer paper accommodating means from the side of the apparatus, there are many disclosures such as a paper feeding roller being automatically moved up and down. However, including the above example, especially when inserting from the front. Even in this case, there was nothing that considered the interference between the feeding member and the transfer paper storage means.

At the bottom of the main body of the electrophotographic apparatus, which is the point of the present invention, a detachable paper feed cassette 31 (or a drawable paper feed tray) is provided.
Each has a built-in guide rail 33
Thus, it can be pulled out to the front surface of the lower part of the main body of the electrophotographic apparatus (direction perpendicular to the drawing of FIG. 2). Generally, for a desktop copying machine that is designed to be compact, it is preferable to use so-called straight conveyance (a feed conveyance path is substantially horizontal and linear) with few jams in feeding conveyance.
It is used a lot. According to the present invention, in order to further reduce the size of this highly reliable straight transfer type small copying machine, at least a feeding member and a transfer material stacking means are provided on the left and right sides of the copying machine at the lower part of the same width as the upper part of the copying machine. By storing it without projecting it, providing it directly below the paper feed path extending to the left and right of the upper part of the device, and sending only the first paper feed from the stacking means in a U-turn shape to the upper transfer material transfer part. After that, the transfer material after the reversal is advanced along the linear feeding / conveying path. When the transfer sheets P 1 stacked in the sheet feeding cassette 31 become empty and need to be replenished or when the size of the transfer sheet is changed, the cassette 31 is placed in front of the apparatus orthogonal to the transfer sheet feeding direction. Pull out to operate.

Therefore, the front surface of the electrophotographic apparatus is functionally divided into two parts, and the paper feed cassette is inserted from the lower housing 34.
Regardless of whether the front door 36 is opened or closed, the transfer sheet P1 can be replenished and replaced independently by pulling it out. Therefore, it is not necessary to open the front door 36 at the time of frequently used transfer replenishment and replacement, the operation is easy and quick, and it is safe without touching the inside of the apparatus. Further, since the paper feed cassette 31 can be pulled out even when the front door 36 is open, workability is good even when the inside of the apparatus is inspected when a paper feed trouble occurs. In addition to making it possible to operate the upper part and the lower part separately, in particular, as described above, a paper feed member and a paper feed cassette capable of accommodating a transfer material having a length substantially equal to the original length are provided. The length of the machine is kept almost the same as that of the upper machine without allowing the machine to protrude from the lower machine, and front operation is possible. Not only does the machine itself become more compact, but it also saves space during maintenance services for the copying machine and user operation range. At the same time, the overall compactness of the machine and the operating functions that synergize the space saving of the user's operating range has improved the function of the device as a machine that is easier to use. FIG. 3B is a side view showing a state in which the front door 36 and the paper feed cassette 31 are opened.

FIG. 4 is a sectional view of a copying machine showing another embodiment according to the present invention. In the figure, a driven roller 50 is provided around the first paper feed roller 39, and it is possible to rotate by being pressed against the roller 39. A feeding roller 51 pulls out the transfer sheet P 1 from the stacking means such as a paper feeding cassette or a paper feeding tray, and presses the uppermost surface of the stacking means and releases it. Middle plate
37 is urged upward after the cassette 31 is mounted. Then, at the time of feeding from the stack portion, when the copy button is pressed, the feeding roller 51 (first feeding means) is rotated to pull out only one of the uppermost layers of the transfer sheets P 1 which are laminated, The sheet is fed to a position where the first sheet feeding roller 39 and the driven roller 50 are in pressure contact with each other. The subsequent sheet feeding operation is the same as described above. In the opening 42 of FIG. 4, an embodiment of a copy start switch means by manual paper feeding is shown. In the figure, the switch S'is a kind of non-contact switch and is a transmitted light type photo coupler. When manually feeding, place the transfer paper P 2 on the manual feed guide plate 43 and open the opening 4
