Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the number of optical fibers so as to reduce costs and to improve durability as well as to substantially eliminate the need for maintenance by providing the end face of optical fibers fixed along a display surface with a light source. CONSTITUTION:The optical fibers 2 are bent at need along the characters or marks on the display surface 1 of the display board and are fixed thereto by an adhesive, etc. The optical fibers 2 are then withdrawn to the rear surface, etc., of the display surface and an end face 3 thereof is provided with the light source 4, such as light bulb or LED. The light generated from the light source is cast to the end face 3. The light source 4 is lighted between the plates and the light is sent to the end face 3 to glow the flanks of the optical fibers 2 on the display surface 1 when the display surface is used. Several sheets of signals are often mounted to one piece of post in the case of the traffic signals and, therefore, the illumination of plural sheets of the traffic signals with one piece of the electric bulb at one time is possible and the maintenance is facilitated if the end faces 3 of the optical fibers of the plural optical fiber display boards are bundled to one bundle and are irradiated with the light source 4, such as light bulb.

An optical fiber display plate, characterized in that an optical fiber (2) is fixed along a display surface (1), and a light source (4) is provided on an end surface (3) of the optical fiber (2). 2.
