(Industrial Field of Application) The present invention relates to a magnetic recording medium that serves as a tape or floppy disk that can be used as an external memory for personal computers, word processors, etc., or in video and audio equipment. (Conventional structure and its problems) In order to achieve further development as a magnetic recording medium, emphasis has been placed on increasing recording density in order to increase recording capacity and downsize devices. The main challenges for magnetic recording media aimed at increasing recording density are thinning the magnetic layer, increasing coercive force, smoothing the surface of the magnetic layer, and achieving perpendicular magnetic recording. In order to achieve these goals, we have developed video tapes and audio tapes in which a thin film of Co-Ni alloy is deposited on one side of a polyethylene terephthalate (hereinafter abbreviated as PET) film, and permalloy (Fe-Ni alloy) on one or both sides of a PET film. ) layer and Co-Cr
Perpendicular magnetic recording media have been proposed in which two thin film layers are formed by sputtering or electron beam evaporation. In this case, in order to expand the recording frequency of the tape and increase the recording density while obtaining sufficient output, a magnetic layer with a large coercive force is required. In order to increase the coercive force of a Co-Cr or Co-Ni thin film, it is effective to raise the temperature during vapor deposition or sputtering. However, PET film has a low heat distortion temperature and cannot be exposed to high temperature atmospheres. If a magnetic thin film is applied to a PET film after heat treatment, sputtering or vapor deposition can be performed even at relatively high temperatures, but oligomers and the like will precipitate from within the PET film, reducing the adhesion of the magnetic layer. In addition, when using the electron beam evaporation method especially when forming a Co-Cr thin film, the temperature of the evaporation atmosphere must be high (over 200℃), so PET
Film has drawbacks such as not being applicable. Polyimide shown by the following formula is a film that can withstand use even at temperatures above 200°C. R is a compound containing an aromatic hydrocarbon. n is an integer of 1 or more. This film is produced by polymerizing tetracarboxylic dianhydride and aromatic diamine in a polar solvent.
Make a solution of polyamic acid represented by the following formula. R is a compound containing an aromatic hydrocarbon. n is an integer of 1 or more. This is formed into a film by a casting method, and is condensed by heat treatment to remove the solvent to form a polyimide. In this method, condensed water is generated, which tends to create voids and unevenness on the film surface, resulting in a surface roughness of 0.2 μm. In general, to increase the surface smoothness of the magnetic layer,
It is important that the support film has good surface smoothness, and with this surface roughness of 0.2 μm, it is impossible to achieve a surface roughness of 0.1 μm or less even if a magnetic layer is provided, making it difficult to touch the head. This has the drawback that the spacing loss increases, making it difficult to achieve a recording density of 20 kbit/inch or more. (Object of the Invention) The present invention eliminates the above-mentioned conventional drawbacks, and expands the recording density by using a support film that allows the deposition of thin magnetic materials at high temperatures and has excellent surface smoothness. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a magnetic recording medium that can perform (Structure of the Invention) In order to achieve this object, the magnetic recording medium of the present invention has a magnetic recording medium of the following formula dissolved in a solvent on a non-magnetic support. R is a compound containing an aromatic hydrocarbon, and n is an integer of 1 or more. A film consisting of a film obtained by casting a solution of polyimide, and a magnetic layer provided on one or both sides of the film. It is. (Description of Examples) Examples of the present invention will be described below. Example Biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride and aromatic diamine are completely imidized in a solvent to form a polyimide solution. This polyimide solution is formed into a film, the solvent is removed by heat treatment, and a 50 μm thick polyimide film having the structure shown by the following formula is formed. It was made into a film. (Polyimide film "Upilex" manufactured by Ube Industries, Ltd.) This polyimide film is formed after polyimide conversion, so there is no condensation water generated during film formation, and the surface roughness is 0.02 μm.
It showed the following surface smoothness. Next, using the continuous DC magnetron sputtering method,
Permalloy (Fe-Ni) is used on both sides of this film.
We prototyped a perpendicular magnetic recording medium with two layers: a Co-Cr layer and a Co-Cr layer. The sputtering conditions are explained in Table 1. Next, two-layer perpendicular magnetic recording media were experimentally produced using other support films in the same manner and compared. The prototype perpendicular magnetic recording medium was evaluated for appearance, adhesion of the magnetic layer to the support, and punched into 5.25-inch diameter FDs (floppy disks), and recorded and reproduced using a known auxiliary pole excitation type head. , head output, dropout number, recording density, and Co-
The results of measuring the perpendicular coercive force of the Cr layer are shown in the table.

[Table] As described above, according to this example, polyimide having the structure of the following formula can be made into a solution even after polyimidation. By using film as a support, it has excellent heat resistance and surface smoothness, making it possible to perform sputtering at high temperatures, increasing the perpendicular coercive force of the magnetic layer, increasing output, and increasing recording density. can be improved. Further, it is thought that there is no precipitation of oligomers, etc., and the adhesion of the magnetic layer is good. (Effects of the Invention) As described above, the present invention provides a non-magnetic support for a magnetic recording medium consisting of a non-magnetic support and a magnetic layer.
A solution of polyimide shown by the following formula dissolved in a solvent is By making a film obtained by the casting method,
It provides high heat resistance and excellent surface smoothness, making it possible to form a thin magnetic layer using electron beam evaporation or sputtering, especially at high temperatures, improving the coercive force of the magnetic layer and improving the surface roughness of the magnetic layer. It is possible to achieve a reduction in size and increase the recording density, which has great practical effects.
