Halftones can be easily expressed. For this reason, it has recently attracted particular attention because it is possible to perform full-color recording similar to photography by using the three colors yellow, magenta, and cyan.

There are no particular restrictions on the base film as long as it has good heat resistance and is thin; from the viewpoint of price, it is usually polyester film,
Condenser paper is used, and polyester film is used when particularly high strength is required. The recording layer mainly consists of a sublimable dye and an adhesive. The types of dyes that are mainly used as sublimable dyes are called disperse dyes, and monoazo, disazo, and anthraquinone dyes are often used. These dyes are used for dyeing hydrophobic resins. Any adhesive can be used as long as it can form a dye-containing film, and polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, etc. can be used.

ある。 To record on recording paper, the polymer-coated surface of the recording paper and the recording layer are stacked facing each other, and the base film surface is heated with a thermal head to sublimate the sublimable dye and transfer it to the recording paper. It is done by folding. Since the base film side is heated and recording is performed in this way, depending on the combination of the base film and the sublimable dye, the sublimable dye may also diffuse to the base film side. For example, in the case of polyester film, which is often used as a base film, if red dye PSD-20 (manufactured by Sumitomo Chemical), which is an anthraquinone dye, is used, the sublimable dye will migrate to the recording paper during recording, and the base film will It also diffuses into polyester film. Therefore, the amount of sublimable dye contained in the recording layer is approximately twice the amount of dye required for recording. Therefore, if the ratio of sublimable dye to adhesive in the recording layer is constant, the thickness of the recording layer will need to be approximately twice as thick, and recording sensitivity will decrease, and if the ratio of sublimable dye to adhesive is increased, However, there is a drawback that the sublimable dye in the recording layer is easily transferred to the recording paper due to pressure, and the recording paper is likely to be smudged.

The present invention provides a thermal transfer sheet in which a recording layer containing a sublimable dye is formed on a base film, in which the diffusion coefficient between the base film and the recording layer is higher than the diffusion coefficient of the sublimable dye contained in the recording layer. An intermediate layer containing a small sublimable dye is provided.

To create the recording layer 13, 2 parts by weight of Kayaset Blue 136 (manufactured by Nippon Kayaku) was used as a sublimable dye, 5 parts by weight of polyvinyl butyral resin as an adhesive, and 100 parts by weight of methylene chloride as a solvent. Weighed and mixed. Next, to create the intermediate layer 12, 10 parts by weight of hydroxyethyl cellulose, which has a small diffusion coefficient for sublimable dyes, is dissolved in 100 parts by weight of water, and the hydroxyethyl cellulose solution is applied onto a 10 μm thick polyester film using a wire bar. This was dried to form an intermediate layer 12 having a thickness of about 1 μm. On this intermediate layer 12, a solution containing the above-mentioned sublimable dye is similarly applied using a wire bar, and then dried to form a recording layer 13 with a thickness of about 2 μm.
A sublimation sheet 1 was prepared by forming a sublimation sheet. For comparison, the sample was placed on a 10 μm thick polyester film.
A sublimation sheet with only a 2 μm thick recording layer was created. In addition, recording paper in which a polyester film was formed on plain paper was prepared as recording paper. Next, each of the above-mentioned sublimation sheets and recording paper were superimposed, and using a thermal head with a heating element density of 6 pieces/mm, recording was performed at a recording power of 0.4 watts per heating element, and the density was measured in the red area. A recording density (OD) of about 1.2 was obtained with the sublimation sheet of the present invention provided with an intermediate layer, whereas a recording density (OD) of only about 0.9 was obtained with the sublimation sheet without an intermediate layer. Furthermore, in order to obtain a recording density of approximately 1.2 with a sublimation sheet without an intermediate layer, the thickness of the recording layer was required to be approximately 1.5 times greater, and greater recording power was required.
以上説明したように、中間層を設けた本発明の

As explained above, since the thermal transfer sheet of the present invention provided with an intermediate layer can reduce the thickness of the recording layer,
This has the effect of reducing the cost of the sheet and increasing recording sensitivity.
