[Industrial Application Field] The present invention relates to a novel polyphenylene ether resin composition that has excellent mechanical strength, solvent resistance, oil resistance, and moldability. Nylene ether and (b) polyester resin and (c)
It relates to a resin composition containing a phenoxy resin and (d) unsaturated carboxylic acids. [Prior Art] Polyphenylene ether is a resin with excellent heat resistance, rigidity, electrical properties, etc., and is a polymeric material useful as an engineering plastic. However, it is well known that polyphenylene ether has major drawbacks such as poor solvent resistance and oil resistance, and poor moldability. As a technology for improving the moldability of polyphenylene ether, that is, its flow characteristics, a technology for blending polystyrene resin was published in the U.S. Patent No.
3383435 also discloses a technique for blending a copolymer of a rubber-reinforced styrene compound and an α,β-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride.
-Disclosed in Publication No. 128947. However, these techniques do not improve the solvent resistance and oil resistance of polyphenylene ether at all. On the other hand, JP-A-49-50050 discloses a technique for improving the moldability, that is, the melt flowability, of polyphenylene ether by blending a polyester resin with the polyphenylene ether.
However, according to the study conducted by the present inventors, although the blending of polyester resin certainly improves the melt flowability of polyphenylene ether,
It has become clear that when polyester resin is blended in an amount that accounts for 20% or more by weight of the composition, the inherent mechanical strength, especially tensile strength, of polyphenylene ether is significantly impaired. . The resin composition thus obtained is not a material that can withstand practical use. Furthermore, when a polyester resin is blended with polyphenylene ether, the solvent resistance of the polyphenylene ether is improved, but the degree of improvement in solvent resistance is proportional to the amount of polyester resin blended. Therefore, if the intention is to provide sufficient solvent resistance, a large amount of polyester resin must be blended, and as mentioned above, such blending results in a decrease in the mechanical strength of the resulting resin composition. This will lead to undesirable results. In any case, the phenomenon that the mechanical strength of polyphenylene ether is impaired when a polyester resin is blended with polyphenylene ether is due to poor compatibility between polyphenylene ether and polyester resin. [Problems to be Solved by the Invention] By the way, the present inventors have first blended polyester resin and phenoxy resin into polyphenylene ether, thereby achieving excellent mechanical strength and solvent resistance. We discovered a resin composition with well-balanced physical properties that also has good moldability and filed a patent application (Japanese Patent Application No. 59-2274), but even in such a resin composition, the mechanical properties are not necessarily at a level that is practically satisfactory. It's hard to say that there is. An object of the present invention is to improve the solvent resistance and oil resistance of polyphenylene ether, improve moldability, and find a resin composition that has particularly excellent mechanical strength. [Means for Solving the Problems] The present invention achieves the above object by combining (a) polyphenylene ether, (b) polyester resin, (c) phenoxy resin, and (d) mono- or polyester resin having double bonds. A resin composition comprising at least one unsaturated carboxylic acid selected from carboxylic acids, their acid anhydrides, and their carboxylic acid ester derivatives, the resin composition comprising (b)

[Function] The resin composition of the present invention thus obtained has extremely specific properties compared to a composition in which polyphenylene ether is blended with a polyester resin or a composition in which polyphenylene ether is blended with a polyester resin and a phenoxy resin. In addition to significantly improved solvent resistance and mechanical strength, particularly tensile strength, oil resistance has also been improved. The reason why the resin composition of the present invention exhibits such a unique effect is not necessarily clear. However, for example, the Journal of Applied Polymer Science
Applied Polymer Science) Volume 23, 645-659
(1979) reported that when a mixture of a polyester resin and a phenoxy resin is heated and kneaded, a chemical bond is formed between the two resins through a transesterification reaction, and in the resin composition of the present invention, It is thought that chemical bonds are formed between the polyester resin and the phenoxy resin when they are heated and kneaded, and unsaturated carboxylic acids or polyphenylene ether are also involved, for example,
Esterification reactions between unsaturated carboxylic acids and hydroxyl groups of phenoxy resins, radical reactions between unsaturated bonds of unsaturated carboxylic acids bonded to phenoxy resins and methyl groups of polyphenylene ether, and furthermore, When saturated dicarboxylic acids are used, reactions such as bonding due to esterification between the terminal hydroxyl group of polyphenylene ether and the hydroxyl group of phenoxy resin are thought to occur, and as a result, polyphenylene ether, polyester resin, phenoxy resin, and unsaturated It is understood that a blend state not seen in conventional compositions was formed between the resin composition and the carboxylic acids, and the above-mentioned unique effects were produced in the resin composition of the invention. [Example] The resin composition of the present invention will be explained below with reference to Examples and Comparative Examples. Example 1 Polybutylene terephthalate (hereinafter referred to as “PBT”)
It is abbreviated as. Manufactured by Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd., with a melting point of approximately 230℃ measured by DSC, grade name "N-
It is a condensate of 41.1 parts by weight of phenoxy resin (bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin) and has a solution viscosity of about 5500 cp and a molecular weight of 29000 when measured in a MEK solution with a solid content concentration of 40% by weight.
It is commercially available from Union Carbide Company under the trade name ``Phenoxy Resin'' and the grade name ``PKHH.'' ) A mixture of 4.6 parts by weight and 2.3 parts by weight of maleic anhydride was melted at 200-260°C using an extruder.
Mixed and pelletized. The intrinsic viscosity measured at 25°C using 48 parts by weight of the obtained pellets and chloroform as a solvent was 0.52 (dl/
g) 2,6-dimethylphenol/2,3,6
-Trimethylphenol copolymer (2,3,6-
The proportion of trimethylphenol is 5 mol%)
32 parts by weight and 20 parts by weight of glass fiber (manufactured by Asahi Fiber Glass Co., Ltd., grade name "CSO 3 MA429-1") were again melted and kneaded at 280°C using an extruder (as a result, the composition was in parts by weight). (Polyphenylene ether/PBT/Phenoxy resin/Maleic anhydride/Glass fiber = 32/41.1/4.6/2.3/20) was extruded to obtain pellets. From the thus obtained pellets, an injection molding machine was used to mold 1. /8 inch thick dumbbell test pieces were molded and the tensile strength was measured. In order to determine the solvent resistance, the chloroform insoluble content was determined from the pellets using a Soxhlet extractor. The results are shown in Table 1. As can be seen from the table, the amount of chloroform-insoluble matter is greater than the amount of polyester resin used, and the total amount of polyester resin and phenoxy resin, as well as the total amount of polyester resin, phenoxy resin, and polyphenylene ether. Since components other than the polyester resin are soluble in chloroform, the above results indicate that chemical bonds occur between the polyester resin and other resin components,
This can be understood to mean that it contributed to the improvement of solvent resistance. Comparative Example 1 Maleic anhydride was removed from the composition of Example 1,
Example 1 was repeated except that the PBT was changed to 43.2 parts by weight and the phenoxy resin was changed to 4.8 parts by weight. The results are shown in Table-1.
