[Industrial Field of Application] The present invention relates to a cat food intended for cats, which are pet animals, and more particularly to a cat food that increases water drinking by cats and has a diuretic effect. [Prior Art] Cats are animals that drink a small amount of water and urinate, and have the ability to extremely concentrate urine. For this reason, they are susceptible to diseases called urinary tract obstruction or urinary syndrome, and although the cause is not yet clear, countermeasures are currently being considered. Common countermeasures include administering excessive salt to increase water drinking and urine output to lower urine mineral concentrations, and administering urine acidifying agents such as ammonium chloride, dl-methionine, and ethylenediamine dihydrochloride. There are many things being done. However, excessive administration of salt is not good for a cat's health as it increases the burden on the cat's kidneys. In addition, other drugs have their own toxicity, and their range of use is naturally limited, and they cannot be used as a preventive measure for urinary tract obstruction or urinary syndrome in general household cats. For these reasons, it has been desired to develop a cat food that is safe and has a diuretic effect. [Problems to be Solved by the Invention] The present invention provides a method for treating cats that are susceptible to diseases called urinary tract obstruction or urinary syndrome as described above.
The aim is to provide a cat food that increases the amount of water a cat drinks and promotes diuresis. [Means for Solving the Problems] The present inventors have conducted various studies with the aim of obtaining a cat food that increases the amount of water consumed by cats and promotes the diuretic effect. As a result, the present inventors have found that when evening primrose seeds are included in cat food, the cat food The present invention was completed based on the discovery that water consumption increases and diuresis is promoted. That is, the present invention is a cat food characterized by containing evening primrose seeds, and its purpose is to increase the amount of water consumed by cats and promote diuresis, thereby alleviating urinary tract obstruction or urinary syndrome in cats. To supply a large amount of inexpensive cat food that can prevent the above-mentioned problems. In the present invention, the evening primrose seeds added to the cat food are seeds of evening primrose, also known as evening primrose, which belongs to the genus Evening primrose in the family Rusticaceae.
It contains 20-24% and about 15% protein.
Note that the evening primrose extract oil is extracted from the above-mentioned evening primrose seeds using a solvent such as hexane. However, the oil extracted from evening primrose seeds itself has the drawback of being easily oxidized, and is not necessarily preferable as a compounding ingredient in consideration of the need for maintaining the quality of the cat food. In this respect, evening primrose seeds are covered with an outer skin, and the seeds also contain vitamin E, making them difficult to oxidize, so it is essential to include evening primrose seeds in the cat food of the present invention. The amount of evening primrose seeds added to the cat food is 0.1 from the viewpoint of water consumption, diuretic effect, economical efficiency, etc.
It is desirable to add about 10%. Cat food consists of corn, milo, wheat flour, soybean meal, fish meal, meat meal, meat and bone meal, animal and vegetable oils,
It is made by selecting appropriate raw materials from seasonings, colorants, minerals, vitamins, etc., and processing them into dry or semi-moist types, or by processing seafood and meat into canned foods. In the invention, evening primrose seeds can be incorporated into any type of cat food. Furthermore, when adding evening primrose seeds to a cat food, it may be added at any step of its processing. [Effects of the Invention] Since the cat food of the present invention contains evening primrose seeds, it has the effect of increasing water drinking and urinary volume approximately one week after being fed to cats, thus reducing the mineral content in urine. It can be expected to be effective in preventing diseases called urinary tract obstruction or urinary syndrome in cats. In addition, evening primrose seeds contain a large amount of gamma-linolenic acid, which improves the coat of your cat.
It is expected to have effects such as reducing dandruff, increasing vitality, and promoting wound healing. [Example] Next, an example of the present invention will be shown. Example 1 Feed having the raw material composition shown in Table 1, excluding tallow (oil and fat) and evening primrose extract oil, was mixed well, water was added to make the content 25%, and the feed was fed into a heating and pressure extruder and heated at a high temperature. The mixture was thoroughly mixed under high pressure, extruded rapidly through the pores of the die, and then cut into a certain length. Then, these are sent to a hot air dryer, tallow (oil) is added to the dried product, and cooled in a ventilation cooler to produce a cat food containing evening primrose seeds, and as a control, a cat food containing evening primrose extracted oil and an evening primrose seed also extracted from evening primrose. A cat food containing no oil was obtained. Note that the evening primrose extract oil was mixed and added to the tallow.

[Table] Cat food containing evening primrose seeds obtained as described above was fed to 6 cats for 3 weeks and raised. Cats were housed in cages with urine collection equipment and were given free access to cat food and water. Then, from the 4th week onwards, a control diet containing no evening primrose seeds was fed to the rats, and they were raised in the same manner. Table 2 shows the results of measuring the water consumption, feed intake, and urine output of the cats during the rearing period.
When cats were fed a control cat food that did not contain evening primrose seeds or evening primrose extract oil, the amount of water they drank and urinated decreased, and when cats were fed a cat food that contained evening primrose seeds according to this example, they increased their water intake and had a diuretic effect. It has been recognized that it can promote

In addition, the cat food containing evening primrose extract oil obtained as described above and the control cat food were fed to 5 cats in each group for 3 weeks, and the cats were raised in the same manner as in the above test to determine their water drinking, feed intake, and urine output. was measured. The results are shown in Table 3, and the water consumption and urine output of the cats fed the evening primrose extract oil-containing cat food according to this example were greater than those fed the control cat food.
