[Industrial Field of Application] The present invention relates to the production of coated arc welding rods.

The present invention relates to a flux fixing agent that improves the coating properties in the process of coating other alloy core wires, and which makes it possible to obtain a good-quality coated arc welding rod. [Prior art and problems] In general, coated arc welding rods are made by adding a water glass solution that functions as a binder to a flux consisting of various ore powders, metal powders, and alloy powders that function as welding solvents. After applying the resulting coating to mild steel or other alloy core wire,
It is obtained by drying at an appropriate temperature of ~500°C. A manufacturing method using alginate as a flux fixing agent for coated arc welding rods was disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No.
117845. However, since alginate is a natural product, its quality varies significantly depending on the production area and year, and its properties are unstable. Furthermore, it has the drawbacks of being expensive and subject to rapid price fluctuations. [Means for Solving the Problems] As a result of intensive studies to improve these problems, the present inventors have developed carboxymethyl cellulose with a high degree of etherification and a water-soluble polyvalent cellulose having the action of gelling CMC. By using a flux fixing agent that combines an appropriate amount of metal salts and an appropriate amount of nonionic water-soluble polymer, the extrusion pressure in the coating process is lowered, workability is improved, and the coating can be coated before drying. The present invention was completed after discovering that the surface of the arc welding rod is less sticky and provides a sintered product with a good texture. That is, the present invention provides water-soluble polymers having a degree of etherification (DS) of 1.0 or more and a mixture of one or more nonionic water-soluble polymers selected from hydroxyethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and polyacrylamide. This is a flux fixing agent characterized by containing 1 to 5% by weight of a polyvalent metal salt. Carboxymethyl cellulose (hereinafter abbreviated as CMC) used in the present invention has a higher degree of etherification than commercially available CMC (degree of etherification: 0.5 to 0.9).
It was discovered that CMC has excellent paintability.
In addition, water-soluble polyvalent metal salts used in the present invention include aluminum salts such as aluminum acetate (soluble or basic), aluminum sulfate, potassium alum, and aluminum chloride, ferrous chloride, ferric chloride, and sulfuric acid. Iron salts such as ferric salts, cupric salts such as cupric chloride and cupric sulfate, and other inorganic or organic magnesium salts, cadmium salts, chromates, titanates, antimonates, etc. Or a mixture of two or more types can be mentioned. That is, by using the flux fixing agent according to the present invention, the extrusion pressure in the coating process is low and good extrusion work is possible. Furthermore, the coated arc welding rod is less sticky before drying, and troubles due to fusion do not occur. [Examples and Comparative Examples] Hereinafter, the present invention will be explained in more detail with reference to Examples and Comparative Examples, but the present invention is not limited to these Examples. Note that parts and percentages in the examples are parts by weight and percentages by weight. A flux and a flux fixing agent having the composition shown in Table 1 were put into a crusher and kneaded for 3 minutes, and then water glass water-soluble was added and kneaded for 8 minutes. The kneaded product was coated on a mild steel core wire using an extruder, and then sintered at 300°C. Table 2 shows the results of evaluating the paintability and the skin of the sintered product by changing the formulation of the flux fixing agent.
