Abstract

PURPOSE:To firmly join a top board made of different kind of metal and a valve lifter body by interposing a suitable interposing material into a groove on the outer periphery of the top board and also melt-joining the interposing material and molten metal. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic-made top board 3 forming the ring groove 4 at the outer periphery is prepared and a material plating layer 5 is formed on the ring groove 4 in the top board 3. After the top board 3 is set in a forming die 11, in the condition of heating the metallic plating layer 5 by a high frequency induction heating device 17, the molten light metal 18 is filled into the forming die 11 and the top board 3 is casted-in with the molten metal 18, thus the integrally joined valve lifter of the top board 3 with the light metal- made valve lifter body is obtd.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, as disclosed in, for example, Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open No. 63-125110, as a method of manufacturing a valve lifter which constitutes a valve operating mechanism of an automobile engine,
Prepare a ceramic having excellent wear resistance in which a plurality of recesses are formed on the outer periphery of the top plate, and then set the top plate in which the recesses are formed in a forming die, and then, in the forming die, an aluminum alloy. Filled with molten metal, and the top plate is cast with molten metal,
A method is known in which the molten metal is caused to flow into the recess of the top plate to obtain a valve lifter in which the top plate and the valve lifter body are integrally joined. In this valve lifter, the ceramic top plate sufficiently withstands wear due to sliding with the cam, and the valve lifter body made of an aluminum alloy is used to reduce the weight.

However, when the valve lifter is made of different metals such as ceramic and aluminum alloy as described above, both have poor wettability and have a difference in thermal expansion. However, in the case of valve lifters that are being used under increasingly severe conditions as engine output increases, it is necessary to improve the bonding strength between the top plate and the valve lifter body. It is the current situation.

In order to achieve the above object, the first solution of the present invention is to manufacture a valve lifter for an engine, which is formed by casting a ceramic top plate with a molten metal made of light metal for forming a valve lifter body. As a method, first, a ceramic top plate having a ring groove formed on its outer periphery is prepared. Next, a metal interposer is placed in the ring groove of the top plate. After that, after setting the top plate in the forming die, a molten metal made of light metal is filled in the forming die in a state where the interposition material is heated by the heating means, and the top plate is cast with the molten metal, the top plate and the light metal.
