Abstract

PURPOSE:To accelerate the drying of ink drops without a special drying means to perform printing simultaneously on both surfaces of recording paper by a method wherein the width of a heating element on a thermal head is determined to be larger than that of a perforated film in a feed direction for drying ink drops adhering to the recording paper. CONSTITUTION:When printing is performed on both surfaces of recording paper, a first perforated film 3 and a first thermal head 1 are disposed symmetrically to a second perforated film 4 and a second thermal head 2 with respect to recording paper 13, the width of a first heating element 14 on the head 1 and the width of a second heating element 15 on the head 2 are respectively larger than the width of the film 3 and the width of the film 4 in feed direction, and ink drops adhering to the paper 13 are dried by the parts of the elements 14 and 15 beyond the films. When printing is performed on one surface of recording paper, the film 4 is retracted to a position on which it is out of contact with the corresponding head 2, the head 2 is directly brought into contact with one surface of the paper 13, and printing is made only by the film 3 and the head 1. In this manner, at the time of single-surface printing, the recording paper is heated from the rear surface thereof, whereby the drying of ink on the surface can be accelerated.

As described above, since the conventional ink jet printer is poor in the quick-drying property of the ink, the ink jet printer of the type capable of simultaneously printing on both sides of the printing paper has been put into practical use. However, if you want to print on both sides of the printing paper with a single printing unit, you need to provide a special drying means to dry the printing surface. There is a problem in that a complicated traveling system is required for the operation.

An ink jet printer according to the present invention has two fine holes which are provided at a symmetrical position with a recording sheet sandwiched therebetween with a predetermined gap therebetween. A perforated film, two driving parts for driving each of the two perforated films, and a heat generating part having a width wider than the width of the perforated film. Two thermal heads for ejecting ink from the fine holes, and the thermal heads with respect to the running directions of the two perforated films for supplying the ink to the respective fine holes of the two perforated films. Two ink supply portions provided at a position upstream of the two, and two cartridges that accommodate the corresponding perforated film, the drive portion, and the ink supply portion and are detachable from the corresponding carriage. It is those having, in particular, the width of the heat generating portion is obtained by wider than the width of the perforated film in the conveying direction of the recording paper.

In FIG. 1, the first perforated film 3 and the second perforated film 4 hold a predetermined gap with the recording paper 13 at symmetrical positions on both sides of the recording paper 13. They are arranged and both have a large number of fine holes. First thermal head 1 and second thermal head 2
Are provided corresponding to the first perforated film 3 and the second perforated film 4, respectively, and the ink is directed to the recording paper 13 from the corresponding fine holes of the first perforated film 3 or the second perforated film 4. Then, printing is performed on the front surface or the back surface of the recording paper 13. Both the first thermal head 1 and the second thermal head 2 have a heating portion having a width wider than that of the corresponding first perforated film 3 or second perforated film 4. Both ends of the first perforated film 3 and the second perforated film 4 are connected to each other to form a ring shape, and are driven by the first drive unit 9 or the second drive unit 10 to perform a circulating motion. The first ink supply unit 5 and the second ink supply unit 6 are for supplying ink to the fine holes of the first perforated film 3 and the second perforated film 4, respectively. 3 or the second perforated film 4 is provided at a position upstream of the first thermal head 1 or the second thermal head 2 in the traveling direction.

The ink supplied from the first ink supply unit 5 or the second ink supply unit 6 to the fine holes of the first perforated film 3 or the second perforated film 4 is the first thermal head 1.
Alternatively, the second thermal head 2 rapidly heats the back surface of the first perforated film 3 or the second perforated film 4 to cause a phase change, and the pressure of the bubble generated thereby causes the fine pores to come out, thereby recording paper. It adheres to 13 and prints.

When printing is performed on only one side of the recording paper, one perforated film (the second perforated film 4 in FIG. 2 (b)) is used as shown in FIG. 2 (b). The second thermal head 2 is evacuated to a position where it does not come into contact with the second thermal head 2, the second thermal head 2 is directly brought into contact with one surface of the recording paper 13, and printing is performed only by the first perforated film 3 and the first thermal head 1. I do. By doing so, in single-sided printing, it is possible to heat the recording paper from the back surface and accelerate the drying of the ink on the front surface.

The remaining amount of ink in the first ink supply unit 5 and the second ink supply unit 6 is detected by a print dot number counter (not shown), and one of the ink remaining amounts is detected when double-sided printing is performed. When the amount is below the standard value,
Automatically switches to single-sided printing. By doing so, it becomes possible to prevent data loss due to ink shortage.

As described above, in the ink jet printer of the present invention, the perforated film, the thermal head, the ink supply section and the drive section are arranged on both sides of the recording paper, and the width of the heating element of the thermal head is increased. The width of the perforated film is wider than the width of the perforated film in order to dry the ink droplets adhering to the recording paper, thereby promoting the drying of the ink droplets without special drying means and printing. There is an effect that printing can be performed on both sides of the paper at the same time.
