Air cleaners used in internal combustion engines of trucks and construction vehicles are used in dusty areas, so generally a cyclone device is installed in front of the over-element to minimize the amount of dust that reaches the over-element and extend its life. It is designed to collect dust of particle size. This type of air cleaner has a cylindrical casing with an inlet and an outlet, and an air element installed inside the casing. In addition, a swirler or air guide is installed in the gap between the casing side wall and the air element, or an inlet pipe is attached to the casing. A swirling flow forming means such as a tangential flow is provided, a dust collection cylinder is fixedly attached to the outer circumference of the lower end of the casing, and a rubber discharge valve is provided at the lower end of the dust collection cylinder. In such an air cleaner, dust-containing air that enters from the inlet flows as a swirling flow by the swirling flow forming means. At this time, large particle size dust flows along the side wall of the casing, enters the dust collection tube at the lower end of the casing, and is discharged from the discharge valve. Unseparated dust and air are collected by the over-element and sucked into the engine. Then, the separated dust of the cyclone moves along the side wall of the casing toward the lower end of the casing, but since the turning force becomes weaker toward the lower end of the casing, it is sucked into the excess element, resulting in a decrease in cyclone efficiency.
In order to solve this problem, a cylindrical guide is provided around the outer periphery of the over-element in the lower part of the casing to suppress the flow toward the over-element.

For air cleaners equipped with a cylindrical guide like the one mentioned above, when water is inhaled along with the air during rainy weather, it is separated like dust and discharged from the discharge valve. It goes inside the guide and stays at the bottom edge. This stagnant water can swell the sealing gasket installed between the end face of the over-element and the bottom wall of the casing, causing a seal failure, and when the over-element is removed when being replaced, dust-laden water can leak into the air cleaner. It entered the clean side of the engine and was inhaled into the engine during reuse, causing engine wear and other problems. The present invention aims to solve the above problems.

The dust-containing air taken in from the inlet is turned into a swirling flow by the swirling flow forming means and flows between the filter element and the casing. A large centrifugal force acts on large-sized dust particles, which flow along the side wall of the casing, reach the bottom wall of the casing, reach the inside of the dust collection cylinder, and are discharged from the discharge valve. Dust that does not reach the bottom wall of the casing is passed through the filter element, and the purified air is sucked into the engine through the outlet. Further, water is sucked in from the inlet of the air cleaner, and the water that enters between the cylindrical guide and the filter element without being separated into the dust collecting cylinder passes through the communication hole and falls into the dust collecting cylinder.

An embodiment of the present invention will be explained with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2. In the air cleaner 10 of the present invention, a filter element 20 is disposed within a casing 3 made of a cup-shaped body 1 and a dish-shaped cover 2 via a packing 21. The body 1 has an air inlet 4 in the open end side wall and an air outlet 5 in the center of the bottom wall. An air guide 6, that is, a swirling flow forming means, is fixedly provided on the inner wall surface of the casing 3 at the inlet 4 portion. The air guide 6 is attached diagonally from the side wall of the casing 3 and extends close to the over-element 20. The over element 20 has a chrysanthemum-shaped over body 23 arranged around a porous, cylindrical inner tube 22, an outer tube 24 on the outside thereof, and upper and lower end plates on the upper and lower surfaces. 25 and 26 are fixed with adhesive. The upper end plate 25 is dish-shaped and has a bolt hole in the center.
The lower end plate 26 is donut-shaped. The outer tube 24 is closed at the upper portion to a position approximately equal to the width of the air guide 6 provided in the casing 3, but the other portion is porous. The filter element 20 is attached via a packing 11 and a cover 2 with nuts 8 and bolts 9 provided on a bridge 7 attached to the outlet 5 portion of the body 1. A cylindrical dust collecting cylinder 12 is obliquely provided at the lower end portion of the casing 3, and the dust collecting cylinder 12 and the inside of the casing 3 communicate with each other through an opening 13. A rubber discharge valve 14 is attached to the lower end of the dust collecting cylinder 12. In the bottom wall of the casing 3, the opening 13 and the over-element 20
A cylindrical guide 16 of a predetermined height is installed between the
is provided. Further, in the bottom wall of the casing 3, a communication hole 15 communicating with the dust collection tube 12 is provided inside the cylindrical guide 16 and outside the filter element 20.

As described above, according to the cyclone air cleaner of the present invention, the gap formed between the cylindrical guide and the cylindrical guide is communicated with the dust collecting cylinder through the communication hole, so that the cylindrical guide and the cylindrical guide can communicate with each other. Water will not accumulate between the casing bottom wall and the over-element, and therefore the packing between the casing bottom wall and the over-element will not swell and cause a seal failure. Also, when removing the over-element for cleaning or replacing it,
Water containing dust will not enter the clean side of the air cleaner and be sucked into the engine during reuse, causing problems such as engine wear.
