Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the thickness of the furnace wall of a ladle accurately even when positions of distance sensors are set roughly, by disposing two distance sensors oppositely to each other so that they are positioned on the opposite sides of the furnace wall, by measuring a distance from each sensor to the furnace wall and by calculating the thickness. CONSTITUTION:The angle of an elevation arm 5 is adjusted by rotating a column 6 supported rotatably by a base 15, so that a straight line connecting sensors 1 and 2 may pass the center of a ladle substantially. With the elevation arm moved up and down and with the ladle 16 rotated by a turntable 17, subsequently, a distance from each sensor to a furnace wall and the thickness of the furnace wall is determined. The amount of wear of the furnace wall can be known from the thicknesses of the furnace wall before and after employment. By this method, the thickness of the furnace wall can be measured accurately even when the set positions of the sensors slide a little.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Industrial Application Field] The present invention relates to measuring the amount of furnace wall wear in a cylindrical refractory-lined container such as a ladle, and particularly relates to a set of distance sensors (hereinafter simply referred to as sensors). The present invention relates to a ladle furnace wall thickness measuring method and apparatus that can accurately measure the thickness of a furnace wall refractory even if the position is inaccurate.

The thickness of the refractory in molten metal containers lined with cylindrical containers, such as the various pots used in steel mills, etc., is measured during use and during standby in order to determine the amount of wear and tear on the furnace walls. It is desirable that it can be measured regardless of the situation.

This is because knowing the extent of wear and tear will serve as a criterion for determining whether or not safe operation can be performed, and at the same time, the aim is to use refractories most effectively to lower the original vehicle price.
