The retractable column is provided with a fixing means for holding the column 2 and fixing the column 2 to the storage tube 1 in an operating position, and the fixing means is configured to slide the column 2 in the storage tube 1. A holding part 1B that is freely held is attached to the main body 1A of the storage cylinder 1 so as to be rotatable around the vertical axis, and a part of the column 2 that is located inside the storage cylinder 1 at the working position protrudes outward from the circumferential surface. A protrusion 4 is provided, and the protrusion 4 is placed to receive the column 2 in the operating position only when the column 2 is in a set rotational posture set around the vertical axis with respect to the storage cylinder 1. The retractable column is provided with a support part 5 on the storage tube 1 that supports the protrusion 4 and releases the mounting action on the protrusion 4 when the column 2 is in a rotational posture other than the set rotational posture.
