Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the optical axis alignment of optical fibers by forming couples of slits in the same in both ferrule insertion end parts symmetrically about the axis of a sleeve main body. CONSTITUTION:The couples of slits 3 are formed in the ferrule insertion end parts 2 of the sleeve main body 1 and a cylindrical part 4 which has the slit 3 is formed between both the ferrule insertion end parts 2, so the sleeve main body 1 into which ferrules B and C are inserted from both lengthwise ends expands respectively, so that the two ferrules B and C are held elastically and respectively. At such a time, the two slits 3 are formed at positions symmetrically about the axis of the sleeve main body 1 and in the same shape, so both the ferrule insertion end parts 2 where the slits 3 are formed expand axially symmetrically. Consequently, even when the ferrules B and C are inserted into the center of the sleeve main body 1 individually, the axes of the ferrules B and C and the axis of the sleeve main body are aligned with one another, and the optical axes of both optical fibers are aligned with each other, so the optical axis alignment of the optical fibers is facilitated.

(Prior Art) Conventionally, there has been an optical fiber adapter for connecting two optical fibers A as shown in FIG. This is because when the ferrules B and C of two optical plugs F with optical fibers A inserted through them are inserted into the elastic sleeve E from both ends and butted together, both optical fibers A are butted together as shown in Figure 8. It is designed to be connected.

The elastic sleeve E is attached to the metal pipe F as shown in FIG.
Only one series of slits G is formed to give elasticity to the vibrator E, and this elasticity allows the ferrules B and C inserted into the sleeve body to be sandwiched together. The outer diameters of the tubes B and C and the inner diameter of the elastic sleeve E are finished to submicron precision.

(Problem to be Solved by the Invention) Although the outer diameter dimensions of ferrules B and C are strictly specified as mentioned above, in reality there are very small errors, and ferrules B and C have a large outer diameter. There is a small ferrule C.

Further, in this elastic sleeve E, when the ferrules B and C are inserted, the vicinity of the slit 3 is more easily deformed than other parts. Moreover, since the conventional elastic sleeve E has only one slit 3 formed, ferrules B with different outer diameters,
When C is inserted from both ends of the elastic sleeve E, the sleeve E is expanded by the ferrule B having a large diameter. Therefore, the shaft of the ferrule B with a large outer diameter is located at the center of the elastic sleeve E as shown in Fig. 5, but the ferrule C with a small outer diameter is located on the bottom side of the sleeve E as shown in Fig. 5. Therefore, its axis C deviates from the axis of ferrule B. The influence of this axis shift is particularly large when the light propagating in the optical fiber A is in a single mode, and an axis shift of several μm causes an optical transmission loss of about o'=0.2 dB.

(Means for Solving the Problems) As a result of intensive research to solve the above-mentioned problems, the inventor of the present invention found that two ferrules B and C inserted from both ends of the elastic sleeve E are elastically supported, and both ferrules B, C
The present invention was developed mainly with the aim that the axes of the elastic sleeves only need to coincide with the axes of the elastic sleeves themselves.

That is, as shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, the elastic sleeve for an optical adapter of the present invention inserts two ferrules B and C into which an optical fiber A is inserted into an elastic sleeve E in a sleeve holder D from both ends thereof. In the elastic sleeve for an optical adapter that connects the optical fiber A when inserted and butted together, both ferrule insertion side ends 2 of the sleeve body 1
At least one set of two slits 3 having the same shape are formed at symmetrical positions with respect to the axis of the sleeve body l,
It is characterized in that a cylindrical portion 4 without a slit 3 is formed between both ferrule insertion side end portions 2.

(Function) In the elastic sleeve E for an optical adapter of the present invention, FIGS.
As shown in the figure, the ferrule insertion side end 2 of the sleeve body I
A pair of slits 3 are formed in each of the ferrules, and a cylindrical portion 4 without a slit 3 is formed between the insertion side ends 2 of both ferrules, so that the ferrules B and C can be inserted from both ends in the longitudinal direction. The inserted sleeve body l expands separately,
When the two ferrules B and C are elastically held separately, the pair of slits 3 are formed at symmetrical positions with respect to the axis of the sleeve body l and have the same shape, so that the slits 3 are the same. Both ferrule insertion side ends 2, on which the numbers 3 are formed, expand axially symmetrically. For this reason, each ferrule B
, C are individually inserted into the center of the sleeve body 1, and the axes of each ferrule B and C coincide with the axis of the sleeve body 1, and the optical axes of both optical fibers A also coincide.

The elastic sleeve shown in FIG. 1 is composed of a cylindrical sleeve body 1 made of a resilient metal such as phosphor bronze. One or more sets of two slits 3 having the same shape are formed in each of the ferrule insertion side ends 2 of the sleeve body 1 at symmetrical positions with respect to the axis of the sleeve body 1. A cylindrical portion 4 without a slit 3 is formed between the side ends 2.

In the elastic sleeve E shown in FIG. 2, a concave portion 13 is formed on the inner periphery of the cylindrical portion 4 of the elastic sleeve E shown in FIG. As a result, as shown by the imaginary lines in FIG. 2, the two ferrules B and C do not contact the inner circumference of the cylindrical portion 4, but only the insertion side ends 2 of both ferrules where the slit 3 is formed. Therefore, the axes of both ferrules B and C are easily aligned with the axis of the sleeve body l.
