Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the ignitability and prevent widening of a spark gap by joining a columnar noble metal chip, whose central part assumes convex form, with the foremost face of the center electrode. CONSTITUTION:A spark plug according to the present invention comprises a cylindrical main body metal piece 1, an insulative substance member 2 with shaft hole 21 to be fixed while fitted in this metal piece 1, a center electrode to be fixed in this shaft hole 21 with the tip 32 protruding from the tip of the insulative member 2 wherein a noble metal chip 4 is brazed (welded) fast to the foremost face 31 of this center electrode concerned, a flat plate part 52 having three holes 51, and an outer electrode 5 consisting of three legs 53 extending from the periphery of this flat plate part 52 and welded to the tip 11 of the metal piece 1. The noble metal chip 4 assumes columnar and has a convex section. Thereby sparks hop from the end face of the chip 4 uniformly to the flat plate part 52 of the outer electrode 5 to ensure lesser electrode exhaust of the flat plate part 52, and the spark gap is hard to be widen.
