With the spread of office automation equipment and the diversification of its uses, printers as information output terminals also require high definition, high speed, low price, low running cost, and easy maintenance. That is required. As recording methods that meet the above requirements, there are inkjet recording methods, thermal transfer recording methods, electrical transfer recording methods, etc., and their development, research, and commercialization are recommended in various places. However, each method has its advantages and disadvantages, and there are problems that need to be resolved before commercialization. Ink jets have problems with reliability, especially nozzle clogging, and thermal transfer takes time for the thermal head to fall, and currently, the repetition rate is about 2 msec/dot.
In addition, the relatively high cost of ink sheets for both thermal transfer and electrical transfer and problems with resolution are obstacles to the widespread use of the products. Among these methods, there is a nozzle-less magnetic field graphics method that eliminates clogging, which is a disadvantage of the inkjet method. (Preliminary 10 of the 8th National Conference of the Japan Society of Image Electronics Engineers, 1981) This method supplies magnetic ink to the tip of a magnetized stylus, forms a meniscus, and causes the ink to fly by switching electrostatic attraction. Since the voltage is high, several hundred volts, it is impossible to drive an IC.
For this reason, the implementation of the head becomes complicated, and it is difficult to make an inexpensive and compact one.

A schematic diagram of a thermomagnetic switch printer apparatus according to the present invention is shown in FIG. In the figure, 101 is a counter electrode, 102 is a magnetic stylus, and a DC voltage is applied as a bias between the counter electrode and the magnetic stylus. 103 is a permanent magnet, 104 is a heating element, 105 is magnetic ink, and 106 is recording paper, and the heating element heats the magnetic ink at the tip of the stylus in accordance with an image signal. As the temperature of the ink increases, the strength of magnetization decreases, and the heated ink flies toward the counter electrode, forming dots on the recording paper placed at a distance from the sliver.

Next, the mechanism of ink flying will be explained based on various forces acting on the magnetic ink in FIG. 1.
Figure 2 shows this force. In the figure, Fc
is the electrostatic attraction force acting in the direction of the opposing electrode, Fm is the magnetic force acting in the direction of the magnet, Fs is the adhesion force (mainly surface tension) to the stylus, and Fc and Fm are expressed by the following equation.

Example 1 Magnetic ink is made by using a magnetic fluid in which the surface of colloidal particles of Mn-Zn ferrite is coated with a monomolecular layer of oleic acid, which is uniformly dispersed in an organic solvent.
A material containing dyes, viscosity modifiers, wetting agents, etc. was used. Figure 3 shows the temperature characteristics of saturation magnetization of Mn-Zn ferrite. As a paid solvent, it should have good compatibility with oleic acid-coated colloidal particles.
A diester-based paid solvent (boiling point, 330°C) was used as a solvent with a relatively high boiling point to prevent the ink from drying out due to volatilization due to temperature rise. The structure of the head is shown in Figure 4. In the figure, 201 is an electrode, 202 is an iron stylus, 203 is a heating element, and 204 is an insulating protective layer. When we performed a temperature switch from room temperature to -100℃ using a heating element with an applied power of 20W/ mm2 , the repetition frequency,

According to the above-described magnetic ink printer of the present invention, it is only necessary to apply heat in response to recording signals, there is no need to apply high voltage, and the structure of the print head can be simplified. Furthermore, since magnetic ink is ejected, extremely high density and high resolution printing can be performed.
