2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a light guide plate for a surface emitting device has a light diffusing and transmitting pattern 6 formed on the lower surface of a light guide 1 having a smooth surface (see FIG. 5). Light diffusion transmitting part pattern 6
A light diffusing and transmitting part with a small area is formed near the linear light source 2, scattering a part of the light emitted from the linear light source 2, guiding it to the upper surface of the light guide 1, and dispersing it to a part far from the linear light source 2. A light diffusing and transmitting portion with a large area was formed, and most of the light that had been repeatedly totally reflected inside the light guide 1 was scattered and guided to the surface of the light guide 1.

[Problem to be Solved by the Invention] However, since the light receiving surface of the light diffusing and transmitting section is only a surface that is parallel to the front and back surfaces of the light guide 1, the amount of light that can be received by the light diffusing and transmitting section is limited. However, only low brightness surface emission could be obtained. Furthermore, since the distance between the light diffusing and transmitting section and the surface of the light guide was long, the light beams scattered and reflected by the light diffusing and transmitting section were not efficiently emitted from the top surface of the light guide.

Therefore, an object of the present invention is to increase the surface area of the light-receiving side of the light-diffusing and transmitting portion so that more light rays can be received, and to efficiently transfer the light rays that have been scattered and reflected by the light-diffusing and transmitting portion to the upper surface of the light guide. It is an object of the present invention to provide a light guide plate for a surface emitting device that can emit light from the surface to obtain high-intensity surface light emission, and a method for manufacturing the same.

[0009] To manufacture the light guide 1, the following mold 4 is used. The mold 4 has a cavity in which a convex portion 5 having a pattern corresponding to the light diffusing/transmitting portion pattern is formed (see FIG. 3). The convex portion 5 is formed in any shape such as a hemisphere or a rectangular parallelepiped. Methods for forming the convex portions 5 include electrical discharge machining, laser machining, engraving, and etching. In particular, the etching method is preferable because it allows easy formation of a gradation pattern.

The light diffusing and transmitting material 3 is placed in the concave pattern 2 (see FIGS. 1 and 2). As a material for the light diffusing and transmitting material 3, an ink containing a particulate transparent material such as calcium carbonate or silica having a refractive index substantially equal to or lower than the refractive index of the light guide 1 is used. Further, as a method for installing the light diffusing and transmitting material 3 in the concave pattern 2, a printing method such as screen printing, a transfer method, or the like is used.

[Operation] When the linear light source 2 is placed on the side surface of the light guide plate for a surface emitting device having the above structure, the light rays irradiated from the linear light source 2 undergo repeated total reflection inside the light guide 1 with an equal angle of incidence and an angle of reflection. , the light beam is scattered and reflected by the light diffusing and transmitting section and guided to the upper surface side.

Furthermore, when a light scattering/reflecting plate is arranged on the back surface of the light guide 1, the light beams that have passed through the light diffusing/transmitting section are also reflected by the light scattering/reflecting plate and are indirectly guided to the upper surface of the light guide 1.

With the configuration of the present invention, the light-receiving area of the light-diffusing and transmitting portion is increased and more light rays can be received than before, so the number of light rays that are scattered and reflected and guided toward the upper surface of the light guide 1 increases. The surface brightness increases. Furthermore, since the distance between the light diffusing and transmitting portion and the upper surface of the light guide plate 1 is shortened, the light output efficiency of the scattered and reflected light rays is improved.
