Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the remaining cornea to be easily fixed to an artificial cornea by forming at least the central part of the cornea of a transparent body, and providing a plurality of locking projections on the peripheral part. CONSTITUTION:An artificial cornea is easily attached by providing locking projections T on the inner surface N of the artificial cornea to improve the stability after the attachment. A fixing means is located somewhat inside from the side edge by providing the locking projections T somewhat inside form the side edge of the inner surface N of the articial cornea. Thus, the air- tightness in the eye can be sufficiently ensured.

These devices are designed to remove the area of the cornea where the function has deteriorated, and then attach and fix the area to the removed area. FIG. 1 shows a conventional artificial cornea B1. These artificial corneas B1 have a bowl shape with a curvature R that matches the human cornea, and are provided with a stepped portion d. Figure 1 (a), (
B) In the peripheral part S1, a plurality of small suture holes I are provided for fixing the remaining cornea. And these are connected to the peripheral member S and the artificial cornea main body part B1. These are made of a resin such as PMMA, a ceramic material such as Re-Fire, and a non-transparent material such as glass. The peripheral member S2 shown in FIG.
This is the artificial cornea B2, which has a separate artificial cornea body. This peripheral member 82 is provided with small holes for fixation similar to those described above.

Since this peripheral member S2 is embedded and fixed inside the cornea, it is made very thin. Even if the wall is thin, it must be strong enough to withstand and remain stable for a long period of time in the body, and as with the artificial cornea shown in Figures 1 and 2, stainless steel, pure titanium, and titanium alloys must be used. It is made of metal materials such as PMMA and resin materials such as PMMA.

For any of these types, it is a necessary condition that the artificial cornea and the remaining cornea can be fixed easily and firmly [Problems to be solved by the present invention] Various techniques have been devised for artificial corneas to fix them to the remaining cornea during replacement. However, due to the small holes and stepped parts in the periphery of these, gaps are created at the joint, which means that the internal airtightness cannot be maintained and body fluids may leak out after fixation. There was also the fear that it could cause an infection. Further, forming the peripheral portion into a complicated shape is not only difficult to manufacture, but also makes it difficult to perform a surgical procedure during installation.

In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, one or more locking protrusions are provided inside the periphery of the artificial cornea, thereby making it possible to firmly and easily fix the cornea.

As shown in Figure 5, the inner tip of the plate is tapered to facilitate fixation, and the artificial corneal member loosens inwardly and outwardly as well as laterally after being fixed. In order to prevent this and ensure stability, one or more narrow stepped portions F may be provided in the central portion of the shaft, or a spiral stepped portion, that is, a threaded portion may be provided. 3= This locking protrusion T is integrally molded with the main body of the second artificial cornea main body member 33B4, or it is made up of separate pieces so that a plurality of locking protrusions T can be attached and detached at any position. The locking protrusion T of this artificial cornea is the peripheral member S3. The same materials as S4, that is, metal materials such as stainless steel, pure titanium, and titanium alloys, ceramics such as sapphire, and inorganic materials such as glass, P! It is made of IIMA resin. Furthermore, a composite material that is a combination of these materials may be used.

As described above, by providing the locking protrusion T on the inner surface N of the artificial cornea, it becomes easier to attach the cornea to a person, and the stability after attachment is improved. By providing the locking protrusion T slightly inside the edge of the inner surface of the artificial cornea N, the fixing means is positioned slightly inside the edge. The stepped portion d) is located at the very edge of the joint, which prevents the problem of body fluids leaking out due to gaps that would occur if the joints do not fit together. This makes it possible to ensure sufficient airtightness inside the eyeball.

As described above, according to the present invention, when a cornea with decreased or lost function is removed and an artificial cornea is attached, it is possible to easily fix the remaining cornea and the artificial cornea. This simplifies the surgical technique, shortens the surgical time, and reduces the burden on the patient.

Furthermore, it is possible to prevent gaps from forming at the joints required for fixation, and to prevent bodily fluids from leaking to the outside. By these means, it is possible to improve the treatment results with artificial corneas over a long period of time, and the invention can be brought to people who require artificial corneas, making an extremely large contribution to the welfare of humankind.
