Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain large lubricating effect even when a disk is lightly in contact with a head by sliding the disk surface with a material having low thermal conductivity to carbonize the binder. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer of the magnetic disk consists of a binder 3, filler 4, and magnetic material 5, and is formed on a substrate 6. By sliding a slider 1 having low thermal conductivity under load on the disk while the disk is fast rotated, heat of friction is produced to raise the temp. of the surface or whole of the binder 3. Then, the surface or whole of the binder is carbonized to form a carbide layer 2. When a head comes into contact with the disk, contact force in the circumference direction of the disk and generation of heat is decreased since the carbide layer 2 has a lubricating effect. This prevents decrease in reproduction output of recorded signals due to disk abrasion or heat. With this structure, the carbide layer 2 has an enough effect of lubrication even when a head lightly comes into contact with the disk, which prevents wear or heat of the disk recording layer 10.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Field of Industrial Application] The present invention relates to a magnetic disk, and more particularly to a magnetic disk that is suitable for reducing damage to the magnetic disk during contact between a magnetic head and a magnetic disk, and a method for processing the same.

〔従来の技術〕[Conventional technology]

Conventionally, as described in JP-A-59-165243,
When a magnetic disk device is driven, frictional heat between the disk and the head causes the surface of the disk to become carbonized.

The above-mentioned carbonized layer has a lubricating effect, but when the contact between the head and the disk is slight, the conventional technology uses carbonization of a hydrocarbon-based binder to fix magnetic powder etc. to each other or to the substrate. It is thought that this is less likely to occur and the effect of the lubricant is small.

An object of the present invention is to increase the lubrication effect even when the contact between the head and the disk is slight, and to prevent wear and heat generation of the disk.

The above purpose is to apply a slider made of a material with low thermal conductivity or an abrasive tape made of abrasive powder with low thermal conductivity to a high-speed rotating disk during disk surface processing (vanishing), which is one of the disk manufacturing processes. This is accomplished by carbonizing the binder on the surface of the disk during the disk manufacturing process.

According to the above means, by sliding the disk surface with a material with low thermal conductivity, the dissipation force of frictional heat is reduced by 1,
The binder on the disk surface is carbonized by frictional heat. Such a carbonized layer acts as a lubricant when a head and a disk come into contact with each other during driving of a magnetic disk device.

In the present invention, when the disk and head come into contact, FIG.
Since the carbonized layer 2 formed by the method shown in FIG. 3 has a lubricating effect, tangential force in the circumferential direction of the disk and heat generation are reduced, and a decrease in the reproduction output of recorded signals due to disk wear and heat can be avoided.

According to the present invention, since the carbonized layer is provided on the disk surface in advance, even if there is slight contact between the head and the disk in which the disk binder is difficult to carbonize, the carbonized layer acts as a lubricant and the disk recording layer 10 wears out. It also has the effect of preventing heat generation and reducing the reproduction output of recorded signals.
