Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out the glassware packaging held down to the minimum necessary at a low cost and supply the glassware to consumers at a low price and in safety by a method wherein a heat shrinkable film ring is fitted over the mouth part of glassware and heated to cover the same with the shrunk film. CONSTITUTION:Each of preformed shrink film rings 1 is fed from above a tumbler 2 on a moving conveyor 3 at a production line to be fitted over the mouth part of each tumbler 2. These rings, together with the tumblers 2, are carried extending 3-10 mm beyond the upper end of the tumbler 2 and retained by a guide rail 4 and the shrink film rings 1 are shrunk in a heating furnace 5 to closely contact the mouth part of the tumbler 2 so as to cover its side and top face therewith. By covering the top and side face of the mouth part of such glassware with the film, the mouth of the glassware, the weakest part thereof, can be prevented from being brought into an adjustable contact with other glass, there is no need to use partition cartons or individual boxes and the glassware can be easily stacked and automatically packaged easily.
