  1. 【実用新案登録請求の範囲】 相対向して配置された透明基板と、前記透明基
    板の相対向する面にそれぞれ形成された透明電極
    層と、前記透明基板の間にセルを形成すべく設け
    られたスペーサと、前記セル中に封入された高絶
    縁性の透明な分散媒と、前記分散媒中に分散され
    た針状または板状の光吸収性分散粒子とからなる
    粒子分散型表示素子において、 前記透明電極層の少なくとも一方には、いずれ
    かの方向に向けて段階的に面積の大きくなる電極
    空隙を設けたことを特徴とする粒子分散型表示素
    子。
