Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform stable fixation even in the case of using papers having different thickensses by detecting the thickness of the paper and controlling the temperature of a thermal roller and the rotating speed thereof in consideration of the thickness of the paper. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with a thickness detection part 4 which detects the thickness of the paper at the time of loading the continuous paper and a control part 6 which controls a heater 9 for heating the thermal roller based on the information on the detected thickness and a driving motor 10. The control part 6 selects the optimum parameter value out of plural parameter value groups stored in a parameter part 5 based on the information, etc., from the thickness detector 4. In accordance with the selected parameter value, the heater 9 is controlled by a heater driver 7 so that the surface temperature of the thermal roller may be a specified one, and the rotating speeds of the thermal roller and a backup roller are controlled by a roller driver 8 so as to give specified tension to the paper 1. Thus, the stable fixation is performed even when the thickness of the paper used is varied.

写,定着の四つのプロセスから成り、これら各プロセス
の一つに性能上の問題があれば印刷品質が低下する。こ
のうちとりわけ重要なのが定着部であり、用紙の幅,厚
さ,表面処理状態等に影響される。

矢印B方向に回転できるようになっており、軸2aの停
止位置を光学センサにより検出し、用紙走行系で得られ
る用紙幅情報と併せて熱ローラ13,パックアップロー
ラ14の回転速度を段階的に制御し、用紙lの蛇行やし
わの発生を防止している. 〔発明が解決しようとする課題〕 上述した従来の定着装置は、ループ板の位置や用紙幅に
対しては数段階の回転速度制御を行っているが、用紙の
厚さを検出する手段を持たず、熱ローラの表面温度を常
用する用紙の厚さに対して最適となるよう制御している
ため、厚い用紙を使用した場合は定着が不十分となり、
薄い用紙を使用した場合には過熱のため用紙の黄変が起
こるという欠点があった. 本発明の目的は、使用する用紙の厚さが変わった場合で
も安定した定着が行える定着装置を提供することである
. 〔課題を解決するための手段〕 本発明の定着装置は、加熱した熱ローラにより用紙に付
着したトナーを加熱定着させる電子写真式印刷装置の定
着装置において、連続式の用紙を装着するときに用紙の
厚さを検出する厚さ検出手段と、この厚さ検出手段で検
出した厚さ情報に基づいてあらかじめ定められた条件に
従って前記熱ローラを加熱するヒータ及び前記熱ローラ
を駆動する駆動モータを制御する制御手段とを備えて構
成されている. 〔実施例〕 次に、本発明の実施例について図面を参照して説明する
. 第1図は本発明の一実施例を示すブロック図である.連
続用紙の装着時に用紙の厚さを検出する厚さ検出部4と
、厚さ検出部4で検出された厚さ情報に基づいて、熱ロ
ーラを加熱するヒータ9及び駆動モータ10を制御する
制御部6を備えて構成されている。制御部6には厚さ検
出器4からの情報のほかに、トラクタ等の用紙走行系で
スイッチ等により検出された用紙幅情報と、ループ板の
位置情報とが入力されており、これらの情報の組合わせ
からパラメータ部5に記憶されている複数個のパラメー
タ値群のうち最適なパラメータ値を選択する.選択した
パラメータ値に従って、ヒータドライバ7により熱ロー
ラの表面温度が指定温度となるようヒータ9を制御し、
ローラドライバ8により熱ローラ13,パックアップロ
ーラ14の回転速度を用紙1に指定の張力を与えるよう
にfiI1御する. 第2図は第1図に示す厚さ検出部4の一例を示す構成図
である.第2図に示すように、用紙に一定の張力を与え
るためのループ板2の用紙側と対向する位置にレーザセ
ンサ3が設けられており、用紙lを装着する際に用紙厚
さを検出する.第2図(a)は用紙1を装着する前の状
態を、第2図(b)は用紙を装着した後の状態を示して
いる.ループ板2の位置を固定し、用紙の装着前後にお
けるレーザセンサ3の出力を比較することにより用紙厚
さtを容易に検出することができる.第1図の実施例で
は、制御部6は熱ローラを加熱するヒータ9と駆動モー
タ10とを制御するよう楕或されているが、更に予熱器
のヒータ9aを同様に制御するようにしてもよい.又、
レーザセンサ3は定着装置のループ板部に設けられてい
るが、定着装置以外の場所に設けてもよい.〔発明の効
果〕 以上詳細に説明したように、本発明は、用紙の厚さを検
出して熱ローラの温度vi御を行い、更に熱ローラの回
転速度制御を用紙厚さを考慮してより精密に行うことが
できるので、厚さの異なる用紙.を使用しても無調整で
安定した定着が行われ、操作性が向上する効果がある.
