Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure a proper current capacity of each conductor by connecting metal terminals by a number corresponding to the width of each conductor to each conductor at the terminal portion of a flat cable. CONSTITUTION:At the terminal portion of a flat cable 13 which comprises a plurality of flat conductors 11a-11e arranged in parallel to each other and covered with an insulting cover 12 and which is molded into the shape of a band, the insulating cover 12 is peeled off so that each flat conductor 11a-11e is exposed. Thickness of each flat conductor 11a-11e is constant but the conductors are different in width and arranged in parallel to each other, and one or plural long-plate-shaped metal terminals 14 are stuck to the exposed portions of these flat conductors 11a-11e by the ultrasonic welding method and the like. There is thus no necessity of pressing the conductors 11a-11e and a proper current capacity of each conductor 11a-11e is secured.

[Prior Art] Conventionally, a flat cable connector with a connector member inserted into a mating connector housing to be connected has been manufactured by peeling off the insulation coating at the terminal end of a flat cable and leaving the exposed conductor part as it is. Those used as connection terminals are known.

However, in the conventional flat cable connector mentioned above, the extremely thin conductor itself comes into contact with the connecting terminal of the mating connector, and this cannot withstand repeated insertion and removal, causing wear and deformation. This causes a problem in that the contact state becomes unstable and the current capacity of the contact portion cannot be ensured.

As an example of solving this problem, as shown in Fig. 3, in a flat cable 3 in which a plurality of flat conductors 1 are surrounded by insulation coating 2, the insulation coating 2 at the terminal part is peeled off and the flat conductors are arranged in parallel. A conceivable structure is to connect a metal terminal 4 to each terminal, and sandwich the periphery of this connection between insulating members 5 and 6 that serve as a housing.

Furthermore, in order to increase the versatility and production efficiency of such flat cable connectors, there is an increasing demand for establishing standards for specifications such as terminal spacing and terminal width. Flat cables have different current capacities for each conductor depending on their circuit configuration.
As shown in the figure, conductors 1a to 1e with different widths are often used.In this way, the width and spacing of each flat conductor 1a to 1e of the flat cable 3 are standardized. If the width W and the spacing d are larger than the width W and spacing d of .

Since the current capacity is limited by the constriction part and the adhesive part of the metal terminal 4, there are problems in that the desired current does not flow and the circuit does not operate, and heat is generated in the constriction part and the adhesive part. In addition, the narrowing part will be molded and provided when manufacturing the flat cable 3, but not only will the process be more complicated than when it is not provided, but it will also be standardized at the tip of the cable 3 cut to the desired length.
