Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sheet material simple in manufacturing and having advantageous knit or woven fabric characteristics by forming a rigidity element from a monofilamet (20, 30) comprising a polyester formed from dicarboxylic acid and diol components and incorporating a flame retardant. CONSTITUTION: The subject sheet material composed of a flame retarded synthetic fiber including monofilaments (20, 30) (e.g. those of circular cross section and 0.15-0.80 mm diameter) comprising dicarboxylic acid and diol components and containing copolymerized chain elements having structural unit of the formula (R is a saturated chain or cyclic alkylene, an arylene or an aralkylene; R1 is a 1-6C alkyl, an aryl or an aralkyl). The sheet material is used for a sunblind, a bellows, a slide door or the like.

A stiffened sheet material formed from flame resistant polyester fibers by plasticizing by heat treatment at 255°C is disclosed. Such heat treatment is an additional step and plasticizes the sheet material, thereby impairing its textile properties.

DE-U-7117085 for blackout or partition blinds in which filaments of polyamide or polymeric linear polyester are incorporated laterally into a textile sheet material in the form of stripes, thereby imparting the necessary stiffness. lamellae are disclosed. However, these sheet materials have only modest flame resistance. Indeed, these materials can be made flame-resistant by applying a finish. However, applying a finish increases resources and is therefore expensive.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The above object is based on a textile sheet material of the type initially mentioned, stiffened from monofilaments (20, 30) consisting of polyester formed from dicarboxylic acid and diol components and incorporating flame retardants. This is achieved according to the invention by forming the elements.

The use of flame resistant monofilaments has made it possible to create flame resistant sheet materials that do not require any plasticization or finishing to exhibit the desired stiffness. The polyester is simple to manufacture yet retains substantially textile properties. For example, different stress-strain relationships for the warp and weft yarns (eg, warp yarns with high modulus and weft yarns with low modulus and shrinkage) can be achieved.

Preferably, the polyester is made flame resistant by modification of the raw materials as described in DE-C-2346787. The sheet material may consist only of these monofilaments. Alternatively, monofilaments may form only a portion of the sheet material, with the remainder consisting of flame resistant multifilaments or open-ended staple length fibers.
