Detailed Description of the Invention (Industrial Field of Application) The present invention involves lighting a light from the inside or back side of a translucent plastic molded member whose surface is coated, and using the backlight to apply a coating film to the surface of the molded member with letters. Make the display pattern formed by punching appear,
The present invention relates to an improvement in a method for cutting out characters from a translucent display member.

(Conventional technology) Generally, a backlight is turned on on the display panel of electrical equipment or machinery, or on the display of an operation panel, etc., to display a display pattern such as characters, figures, patterns, etc., in a bright and clear manner. A translucent display member is used.

These display members are generally formed by printing a background color on the surface of a translucent plastic plate by removing the display pattern and using a silk screen or the like. However, this method can only be applied to flat plate-shaped objects, and cannot be used for cylindrical three-dimensional members such as button switches because the side surfaces cannot be printed.

For this reason, the conventional method for printing three-dimensional display materials is electroplating, but in this method, the background color is formed using plating, so materials that can be plated, such as chrome, nickel, and zinc, are used. Due to technical limitations, it was limited to black colors and had the disadvantage of high manufacturing costs.

Furthermore, instead of this electrodeposition coating, a method has been conventionally used in which an inexpensive paint is applied to the entire surface of the display member, and characters are cut out from the display pattern portion using a laser.

However, although this method of combining painting and laser allows the background color to be freely selected, the laser generator is expensive and the control is complicated, so the cost is high, especially in the case of small-lot, high-mix production. was not practical.

In order to solve this problem, the inventor of the present invention first developed an inexpensive method that combines a water-based masking agent and painting. In this method, first, a mask pattern is formed by printing characters, figures, etc. on a display pattern portion using a water-based masking agent by silk screen printing or transfer printing. After this,
After drying the mask pattern, the entire surface of the molded member is painted over it. Thereafter, after the paint dries, adhesive tape is pressed onto the mask pattern portion and the mask pattern is peeled off. This peeling operation is performed about 5 to 6 times to remove the mask pattern and cut out characters from the background coating film.

However, since this method uses a commercially available aqueous masking agent, the manufacturing cost is low, but the drying of the aqueous masking agent and the peeling operation using an adhesive tape are troublesome, and the workability is poor. Moreover, there was a drawback that the cut-off surface at the boundary between the cut-out characters and the background coating film could not be neatly cut out vertically, resulting in a blurred display pattern.

The inventor investigated the cause of this problem and found that in water-based masking agents, water evaporates during the drying process after printing a mask pattern, and when the masking agent solidifies, the edges become uneven instead of smooth, and the paint bites into these areas. This is thought to be due to the fact that when the mask pattern is peeled off, the cutout surface is not vertical and the characters become blurred.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) The present invention has been devised in view of the above-mentioned problems. When the mask pattern is peeled off, the parting surface is clean, the display pattern can be clearly displayed, and the drying process of the mask pattern is simple. To provide a method for cutting out characters from a translucent display member that does not require a mask pattern, can be easily peeled off, has excellent workability, and can be manufactured at low cost from small-lot, high-mix production to mass production.

(Means for Solving the Problems) The present invention uses silk screen printing or transfer printing to mask desired characters, figures, patterns, etc. on the display surface of a molded member molded into a desired shape using translucent plastic. After printing a pattern with semi-solid grease that is viscous at room temperature, the surface of the molded member is painted and colored, and then an adhesive tape is pressed onto the mask pattern formed with grease and whose surface is painted. This method is characterized by peeling off the mask pattern and cutting out characters from the paint film.

For example, when using a rectangular tube-shaped molded member 1 as shown in FIG. Pattern 2 is printed using viscous semi-solid grease. A cross-sectional view of this state is shown in FIG. 2, and the thickness of the mask pattern 2 is, for example, about 10 to 20 μm.

As a semi-solid grease with viscosity, for example, grease is preferable because it is inexpensive, and its viscosity (hardness) is
Grease Institute (International Grease Association) standards 1 to 4 are desirable, because if the viscosity is too low, the outline of the mask pattern tends to become unclear, and if the viscosity is too high and too hard, it tends to get stuck in the mesh of the screen.

Note that wax, which is solid at room temperature, can be heated and used even if it is semi-solid because it solidifies during printing and bites into the mesh of the screen.

Next, as shown in FIG. 3, a paint of a desired background color is applied to the surface of the plastic molded member 1 on which the mask pattern 2 has been printed to form a coating film 3 over the entire surface. In this case, the mask pattern 2 can be painted immediately after printing without drying.

After this, place the adhesive tape 4, such as duct tape, cellulose tape, or vinyl tape, with the adhesive side facing down.
As shown in the figure, when the coating film 3 in the area where the mask pattern 2 is formed is pressed once or twice, the mask pattern 2 is easily peeled off as shown in FIG.
As shown in the figure, a triangular display pattern 5 with characters cut out is formed.

Therefore, in the present invention, since the mask pattern 2 is formed of viscous semi-solid grease, the end surface is smooth and has excellent releasability, and the edge of the obtained display pattern 5 where the characters are cut out is the parting surface 6. is vertical, making it possible to clearly cut out even small letters and figures.

FIG. 7 shows another method of the present invention, in which a thin coating film 7 of, for example, red is formed on the upper surface of a rectangular tube-shaped molded member 1 made of transparent plastic, and then a thin coating film 7 of, for example, red is applied thereon in the same manner as described above. A mask pattern is printed with semi-solid grease having viscosity, a blackish coating film 3 is formed on the entire surface of the mask pattern, and then it is peeled off with an adhesive tape and characters are cut out to form a display pattern 5.

If the plastic molded member 1 itself is colored, the light transmittance will decrease, so by forming a thin coating film 7 under the display pattern 5 from which characters are cut out, colored light will be displayed when the backlight is turned on. Pattern 5 can be clearly highlighted.

(Effects of the Invention) As explained above, according to the method for cutting out characters from a translucent display member according to the present invention, since the background color is applied by painting, the color can be selected more freely than with electrodeposition coating. Manufacturing costs are also low. Furthermore, since the formed display pattern is a mask pattern made of viscous semi-solid grease, the cut-off surface is vertical and does not bleed, making it possible to clearly cut out characters.

Furthermore, the present invention does not require a drying process like water-based masking agents, and is extremely easy to peel off and has excellent workability.Furthermore, compared to laser methods, silk screen printing is cheaper than transfer printing, and it can be used in small quantities in large quantities. It can be widely applied from variety production to mass production.
