However, recently, the pole pillars for connecting between cells have come to be formed from a Pb--Ca alloy. As is well known, Pb-Ca alloys have poor weldability. Therefore, when electrical resistance welding is applied to pole columns for connecting cells made of a Pb--Ca alloy, there is a risk of defective welding.

FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a main part of a lead-acid battery according to the present invention, before electrical resistance welding is applied to pole columns for connection between cells. The pole columns 1a and 1b for inter-cell connection are made of a Pb--Ca--Sn alloy, and are arranged so as to cover the through holes 3 provided in the partition wall 2 made of polypropylene. The alloy contains 1% by weight or more of Sn, 0.02 to 0.2% by weight of Ca, and Al.
0.1% by weight or less, and the remainder is Pb. Note that 4a and 4b are electrodes for extrusion type electric resistance welding.
